SlovakiaApostille, Attestation & Document Services from India

Slovakia is a growing route for Indian construction, automotive, healthcare, and IT workers on the single-employer D National Visa. The India chain runs HRD or Home Department, then MEA apostille, then sworn Slovak translation by a court-appointed translator (úradný preklad). Regulated professions (medical, nursing, pharmacy) also need Slovakia-side recognition called uznanie.

Slovakia's acute labour shortage in IT, healthcare, automotive, and construction has made the National D visa one of the faster EU work routes for Indian skilled workers since 2023. The sworn Slovak translation by an úradný prekladateľ is the file step that catches most Indian applicants out.

Slovakia is a Hague Apostille Convention member and accepts Indian MEA apostille. Most academic, civil, and employment files additionally need certified Slovak translation by an úradný prekladateľ (sworn translator) listed by the Slovak Ministry of Justice. The India-side chain is state-level pre-attestation → MEA apostille → certified Slovak translation. Degree recognition (nostrifikácia) and EU Blue Card / National D visa procedures happen in Slovakia.

Overview

Slovakia runs busy on three desks for us. National D visa for skilled workers (IT, healthcare, automotive, construction) sponsored by a Slovak employer, where the labour shortage has driven steady Indian hiring since 2023. Student admissions at Comenius University, Slovak University of Technology, and the medical universities in Bratislava and Košice. And family reunion for spouses joining workers already in Slovakia.

Slovakia is Hague (EIF 18 February 2002). State HRD on educational documents, SDM or Home on personal documents, then MEA apostille. That is the India-side chain.

Slovak translation must be done by an úradný prekladateľ (court-appointed translator) on the Slovak Ministry of Justice register. Most Slovak authorities including the Foreign Police (Cudzinecká polícia), the Ministry of Interior, universities, and the regulated-profession chambers expect this. A general English-to-Slovak translation done in India is usually not accepted. We coordinate apostille first, then route translation through an úradný prekladateľ.

For regulated professions (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, engineering), nostrifikácia is the Slovak recognition of your foreign degree, run by the Ministry of Education or the relevant Slovak chamber. We prepare apostilled and sworn-translated documents in the input format the file expects.

Timeline, Cost Factors & Rejection Risks

Typical Timeline

Most Slovakia apostille and Slovak translation files take 10-20 working days once State HRD or SDM is ready, with extra time for high-volume translation or document corrections.

Cost Depends On

Document type and issuing state
HRD requirement for educational documents
Certified Slovak (úradný prekladateľ) translation page count
EU Blue Card, National D visa, or family reunion supporting paperwork
Nostrifikácia (degree-recognition) documentation
Urgency and pickup city

Common Rejection Reasons

Submitting documents without úradný prekladateľ-certified Slovak translation
Missing State HRD for educational documents needed for nostrifikácia
Treating an English translation as sufficient when the receiving Slovak authority requires Slovak
Name mismatch across passport, degree, and Slovak employer or university documents

How SiZA Global Handles It

Reviews the Slovak recipient instruction (university, employer, foreign police, Ministry of Interior) before processing

Important Information & Requirements

Slovakia accepts MEA apostille as the final India-side stamp. No Slovak embassy attestation step.

Slovak translation must be done by an úradný prekladateľ on the Slovak Ministry of Justice register, not a general English-to-Slovak translation done in India.

Apostille first, sworn translation after. The translator has to render the apostille text along with the document.

Nostrifikácia for regulated professions is decided in Slovakia, not India. We prepare the apostilled and translated input documents.

EU Blue Card is available in Slovakia for high-skilled workers above the salary threshold; the document chain is identical to the National D visa.

Slovakia uses the same Schengen and Eurozone footprint as most of the EU; once you have your Slovak residence permit, you travel freely within Schengen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Slovakia accept MEA apostille from India?

Yes. Slovakia has been a Hague Apostille member since 18 February 2002. MEA apostille from India is the final India-side stamp. No Slovak embassy attestation step. Sworn Slovak translation by an úradný prekladateľ is usually required after apostille for the National D visa, university, and chamber files.

Who is an úradný prekladateľ and why does it matter?

An úradný prekladateľ is a court-appointed translator on the public register maintained by the Slovak Ministry of Justice. Slovak authorities including the Foreign Police, the Ministry of Interior, universities, and the regulated-profession chambers usually only accept Slovak translations done by someone on that register. A general English-to-Slovak translation done in India is often rejected. We route the apostilled document to an úradný prekladateľ as part of the file.

I am a nurse going to Slovakia. What is the chain?

For Indian nurses going to Slovakia, the typical file is GNM diploma or B.Sc. Nursing degree, marksheets, registration from the Indian Nursing Council and your state council, plus a Good Standing Certificate. Each goes through State HRD plus MEA apostille plus sworn Slovak translation. Nostrifikácia recognition in Slovakia is the final professional step, decided by the Slovak chamber.

Czech Blue Card required apostilled degree, work experience letters, and a certified Czech translation of my degree. SiZA arranged the Maharashtra HRD first — which they told me upfront is required for degrees from Pune University — then MEA apostille, then the Czech translation. The Czech embassy accepted everything first attempt.

AHPRA skills assessment required apostilled pharmacy degree and internship certificate. I was confused about whether Tamil Nadu HRD attestation was needed first. SiZA clarified it clearly — TN HRD is required before MEA for degree apostille. They handled both steps. My documents reached AHPRA exactly as required.
