Turkish translation: key facts for 2026
- • Two-step Turkish sworn-translation format: yeminli tercüman (sworn translator) translates and signs, then a Turkish noter (notary public) authenticates the translator's signature. Both steps need to land in sequence.
- • Translation runs from a scan; the Original Indian document does not travel for translation. The Original travels separately for the MEA apostille leg.
- • Göç İdaresi (Directorate General of Migration Management) processes residence permits (work, study, family, short-term). Türkiye is a Hague Apostille Convention member; MEA apostille is the legal-recognition step.
- • YÖK (Council of Higher Education) runs Indian degree recognition for Turkish university admission and academic equivalency. Healthcare credentials route through SGK and TÜBİTAK depending on profession.
- • Turkish nüfus (civil registry) office for marriage registration of an Indian-Turkish couple or birth registration of Indian-born child of Turkish-resident parents. Reads the apostilled-and-Turkish-translated source documents.
- • Turkish work visa for Indian professionals in IT, engineering, healthcare, and teaching. Documents: degree + experience + employment contract, all translated to Turkish via yeminli tercüman + noter authentication.
Translation plus noter is the Turkish format
Turkey\'s sworn-translation format has two steps that need to land in sequence. First, the yeminli tercüman (sworn translator) translates the Indian document into Turkish and signs the translation. Second, the translation is authenticated at a Turkish noter (notary public); the noter confirms the translator\'s authorisation and stamps the translation. Together these two steps produce the format Turkish government authorities act on.
Each Turkish noter keeps a list of yeminli tercüman it recognises for each language pair. For Indian-document translation work (English-to-Turkish, Hindi-to-Turkish, Urdu-to-Turkish), we work with translator-noter networks in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir that handle Indian-source documents regularly.
Scan for translation, Original for apostille — the Turkish handling rule
Turkish translation runs from a scan. The yeminli tercüman works from a clear photograph or scan; the Turkish noter authenticates the translation; the stamped Turkish hard copy ships from Turkey by international courier.
The MEA apostille on the Indian side needs the Original. The Original Indian document comes to our Noida office for the apostille; translation in Turkey runs in parallel from the scan once apostille is on.
Which Turkish authority will actually read this
Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü (Turkish Migration Directorate) for ikamet izni. Work residence, family residence, student residence, short-term residence, long-term residence. The application portal accepts scans; originals and stamped Turkish translations are presented at the Göç İdaresi appointment.
YÖK (Yükseköğretim Kurulu) for academic credential nostrification. Indian degrees evaluated by YÖK for Turkish university admission or for Turkish professional-licensing precondition. YÖK reads the apostilled documents in Turkish by yeminli tercüman at noter.
Turkish citizenship through marriage (3 years) or investment (USD 400,000+ in real estate or capital). Turkish Ministry of Interior nüfus office processes the citizenship application. The Indian birth certificate, marriage certificate, PCC, and supporting documents go in Turkish by yeminli tercüman at noter.
Turkish Ministry of Health for healthcare licensing. Indian doctors, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals seeking Turkish licensure read through the Ministry of Health with credentials evaluated by YÖK or by the Ministry directly. Documents translated to Turkish by yeminli tercüman at noter.
Turkish universities for direct admission. Boğaziçi, Istanbul Technical University, METU Ankara, Bilkent, Hacettepe, and other Turkish universities admit Indian students with apostille and Turkish translation. Some universities run YÖS (Foreign Student Examination) as part of admission.
Northern Cyprus use. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus uses Turkish as official language and has separate registration and recognition processes from Turkey. Some North Cyprus universities admit Indian students with Turkish translation done in mainland Turkey; the recognition of the resulting Northern Cyprus degree in third countries varies.
What we will not pretend
We are not a yeminli tercüman and we are not a Turkish noter. SiZA Global is not authorised by any Turkish notary public; we coordinate with translator-noter networks in Turkey.
We do not run YÖK academic-equivalence decisions, Göç İdaresi residence-permit approvals, or citizenship approvals. Those are Turkish authority processes.
We do not handle Turkish citizenship-by-investment property purchase, capital deposit, or fund source verification. Those are handled by the Turkish property lawyer or financial advisor; we deliver the Indian-side documentary support.
How the Turkish document moves between Noida and the yeminli tercüman / noter
You can\'t mess with people\'s Original documents. Indian originals are logged at intake at our Noida office; the stamped Turkish translation comes back from Turkey in the yeminli tercüman / noter packaging.
International legs use FedEx, DHL, or equivalent. Inter-city Indian legs use Blue Dart, DHL, FedEx, DTDC Premium, UPS. We do not use Porter, Wefast, Borzo or similar third-party parcel apps.
From WhatsApp scan to Göç İdaresi, YÖK, or Turkish nüfus office
You WhatsApp the scan of the Indian document and the Turkish destination (Göç İdaresi category, YÖK nostrification, citizenship route, university, healthcare ministry). We confirm the Indian-side chain (State HRD for educational, SDM for civil, Home Department for some categories), the MEA apostille, the yeminli tercüman timeline, and the realistic working-day estimate.
The Original Indian document comes to our Noida office. Apostille runs in India; translation runs in parallel in Turkey from the scan. The stamped Turkish translation hard copy ships back to India or directly to the Turkish destination authority.
Frequently asked questions
Turkey is Hague. So MEA apostille is enough?
For the legal-recognition layer, yes. Turkey is a Hague Apostille Convention member; MEA apostille on the Indian original is the authentication step. But Turkish authorities read Turkish. The translation step is done by a yeminli tercüman (sworn translator) and the translation is then authenticated at a Turkish noter (notary). Göç İdaresi (Turkish Migration Directorate), Turkish universities, Turkish municipalities and Turkish courts all read Turkish translation in this format. India-side Turkish translation does not pass at Turkish government counters.
Who is a yeminli tercüman and where do I find one?
Yeminli tercüman is the Turkish sworn-translator credential, sworn before a Turkish notary. Each Turkish noter (notary public) maintains its list of yeminli tercüman for the languages they recognise. The translation is signed by the translator and authenticated by the noter; that combination carries full legal force in Turkey. We coordinate with yeminli tercüman networks in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir for Indian-document translation work.
YÖK nostrification for Indian degrees. What does it ask for?
YÖK (Yükseköğretim Kurulu, Turkish Council of Higher Education) runs academic credential evaluation for foreign degrees going to Turkish universities or used for Turkish professional licensing. For Indian degrees, YÖK reads the MEA apostilled degree and transcripts in Turkish translation by yeminli tercüman authenticated at noter. YÖK evaluation typically takes 3 to 6 months. Some Indian degrees go through additional Turkish-side examinations or course-content equivalence reviews.
Turkish residence permit (ikamet izni) for an Indian applicant. What documents and translation?
Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü (Turkish Migration Directorate) processes ikamet izni applications. For Indian applicants on work, family, study, or property-investment residence categories: passport, supporting Indian documents per category (degree for student, marriage certificate for family, work contract for work permit, property title for investor), MEA apostilled, Turkish translation by yeminli tercüman authenticated at Turkish noter. Submission at the Göç İdaresi appointment in the Turkish city of residence.
Turkish citizenship through marriage to a Turkish national. What is the documentary load?
After 3 years of legal marriage to a Turkish citizen, an Indian spouse can apply for Turkish citizenship. The application reads the apostilled Indian birth certificate, the apostilled Indian marriage certificate (if registered in India), PCC, possibly degree certificate, all translated to Turkish by yeminli tercüman at Turkish noter. Plus Turkish-side documents (marriage registration in Turkey if not registered in India, residence proof, Turkish-language proficiency where applicable). Application at the local Turkish nüfus office.
Do I need to send the Original Indian document for Turkish translation?
No. The yeminli tercüman in Turkey works from a clear scan or photograph of the Indian document. The Turkish translation is authenticated at the noter; the stamped Turkish document comes back from Turkey by international courier or is delivered to the Turkish destination authority directly. The Original Indian document travels separately for the MEA apostille leg in India.
Turkish citizenship by investment (real estate, USD 400,000+). Are the documents the same?
The Turkish citizenship-by-investment programme has its own document checklist driven by the investment type (real estate, capital deposit, government bonds, fixed-capital deposit). For the Indian-applicant document stream, the standard set includes apostilled birth certificate, marriage certificate, PCC, and proof of fund source. All translated to Turkish by yeminli tercüman at noter. The Turkish-side investment-verification is handled by the property lawyer or financial institution.
How long does the Turkish translation step take?
For a standard residence-permit or family-document pack: 5 to 10 working days at the Turkish yeminli tercüman, plus 1 to 3 working days for the noter authentication, plus 5 to 10 working days for international courier of the stamped hard copy back to India or to the Turkish destination. For YÖK nostrification bundles with transcripts, the Turkish translation step extends to 10 to 20 working days. We get an estimate from the translator before accepting the file.
