Spanish Translation: Traductor Jurado for Spain Visa, NIE, Civil Registry 2026

Spain student visa, Numero de Identidad de Extranjero (NIE), civil registry registration, family reunion, university nostrification and Spanish work residence each require Spanish translation by a traductor jurado authorised by the Spanish Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores (MAEC). The Spanish Embassy in New Delhi accepts the traductor jurado's soft-copy sworn translation, so the PDF reaches you on email inside 2 to 3 working days standard; urgent cases close in 1 working day. The Original document does not travel for translation work; a clear scan is what the translator works from. Mexico and other Latin American destinations are handled per consular rule. Brazil requires Tradutor Publico e Interprete Comercial (TPIC) translation done in Brazil after arrival, not in India.

Spanish translation: key facts for 2026

  • Spanish Embassy New Delhi accepts soft-copy sworn translation from a Spain-side traductor jurado authorised by MAEC. Standard delivery is 2 to 3 working days; urgent cases close in 1 working day.
  • • The Original Indian document does not travel for the translation step; the traductor jurado works from a clear scan. If MEA apostille is also part of the case, the Original travels separately for the apostille leg.
  • India-side certified Spanish translation is not accepted for Spanish civil registry, NIE, residence permit, or most Spanish government use. The MAEC-authorised sworn stamp is the threshold.
  • • Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina each have their own consular rules and do not automatically accept Spain traductor jurado. Verified per case.
  • Brazil requires Tradutor Público e Intérprete Comercial (TPIC) translation done in Brazil after arrival. India-side Spanish translation is not accepted for Brazilian government use.

Which Spanish-translation case do you have, and where does the sworn step happen?

Spain has the cleanest sworn rule. Latin American destinations vary by consulate. Brazil rejects India-side translation entirely.

Spain student visa (Estudiante)

Indian degree, transcript, birth certificate, PCC for Spain student visa. MEA apostille on the Indian documents, then sworn Spanish translation by a traductor jurado authorised by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC). The Spanish sworn stamp gives the translation legal force in Spain.

Common files: Degree, transcript, birth certificate, PCC, university acceptance letter, financial documents.

NIE and civil registry

For NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero), civil registry use, work residence and family reunion in Spain. Marriage and birth certificates apostilled in India, then traductor jurado handles the Spanish translation in Spain. Spanish civil registry is strict on sworn status.

Common files: Marriage certificate, birth certificate, NIE supporting documents, sponsor employment letter, residence permit copies.

Spain university nostrification

Recognition of Indian university qualification by Spanish authorities. Degree, transcripts and supporting academic documents with HRD or SDM (as the document type asks), MEA apostille, then traductor jurado for Spanish equivalency or recognition processes.

Common files: Degree, full transcript, course content where the institution asks, equivalency form.

Spain work file and residence

Employment letter, experience certificate, PCC and degree for Spain work visa or residence permit. Apostille first; sworn Spanish translation in Spain for filing with the relevant Spanish authority.

Common files: Degree, experience certificate, PCC, employment offer letter, sponsor employer documents.

Latin America: Mexico and other consular use

For Mexico, the consulate may require the translation in Spanish, sometimes apostilled separately or done by a Mexican-authorised translator. For other Latin American destinations (Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina), each consulate has its own translation rule. We confirm the destination consulate's expectation before paying for translation.

Common files: Marriage and birth certificates for visa file, degree where the destination employer asks, PCC.

Brazil: TPIC translation in Brazil

Brazil is the unusual case in Latin America. India-side Spanish or Portuguese translation is not accepted for Brazilian government use. Brazil requires a TPIC (Tradutor Público e Intérprete Comercial), who must be Brazilian, civil-service-licensed, and resident in Brazil. India-side work for Brazil files is limited to apostille. See the Portuguese translation desk.

Common files: Apostille only on the Indian side. Translation by Brazilian TPIC after the document arrives in Brazil.

Which Indian documents go to Spain most often in 2026?

Six lanes with their typical risks.

Birth certificate

For Spain civil registry and family reunion, birth certificate apostille in India, then traductor jurado in Spain. Hospital discharge slip is not a birth certificate; the certified copy from the Registrar of Births and Deaths is.

Common risk: Father, mother, child name spelling has to match across passport, original certificate and Spanish translation. Spain civil registry will hold the documents otherwise.

Marriage certificate

For Spanish spouse visa, family reunion and civil registry. Apostille in India, then sworn Spanish translation in Spain by a traductor jurado.

Common risk: Regional-language marriage certificates need English translation first, then SDM or Home Department, then MEA apostille, then Spanish sworn translation.

Degree certificate and transcript

Spain student visa and university nostrification. HRD attestation for degree where Spain or the Spanish university asks; SDM for some destinations. MEA apostille, then traductor jurado in Spain. For Spanish university equivalency, the transcript matters as much as the degree.

Common risk: Course content translation can be required for equivalency. The degree alone is not enough for some Spanish institutions.

PCC

PCC from PSK in English, MEA apostille, then sworn Spanish translation in Spain. PSK PCC is in English, so the regional-language step does not apply.

Common risk: PCC has a freshness window. Spain consular and immigration desks often expect within 3 to 6 months.

Single status / no impediment

For marriage in Spain, a Single Status affidavit or no impediment declaration is required. SDM affidavit, MEA apostille, sworn Spanish translation in Spain.

Common risk: Spain registries may want a fresh single status, typically within 3 months of marriage application.

POA and notarial files

POA for Spanish property, business or family matters. Notarise, apostille, sworn Spanish translation in Spain.

Common risk: Spanish notarial offices are strict on POA scope; broad-language POAs are sometimes rejected. Drafting matters.

What is unusual about Spanish translation through traductor jurado?

Five rules that catch customers out on Spain and Latin America files.

Spanish Embassy accepts soft-copy sworn translation, 2 to 3 working days standard

The Spanish Embassy in New Delhi accepts traductor jurado sworn translation delivered as a soft copy (PDF with translator's signature and stamp). Because the destination acceptance is soft-copy, we do not need to physically ship the translation from Spain to India. Standard turnaround is 2 to 3 working days from when the translator receives the scan. Urgent cases close in 1 working day. The customer receives the soft-copy PDF; hard copy on request.

Traductor jurado is authorised by MAEC

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC) authorises traductores jurados. The translator stamps and signs the translation; that stamp carries court-equivalent legal force in Spain. The sworn step is done by the MAEC-authorised translator in Spain; the soft-copy PDF is delivered to us, and we deliver to you.

India-side certified is usually not enough for Spain government use

A certified English-to-Spanish translation done in India does not carry traductor jurado authority. For Spanish civil registry, NIE, residence and most government use, the MAEC-authorised translator's sworn stamp is the requirement.

Mexico differs from Spain

Mexico consulates often want the translation in Spanish but rules vary. Some require apostille on the translation; some require translation by a Mexican-authorised translator. The Spain traductor jurado is not automatically accepted in Mexico.

Latin America differs from Spain

Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina each have their own translation authority rules. The Spain sworn translation is not a universal pass for Latin American destinations.

Brazil rejects India-side translation

Brazil requires TPIC translation done in Brazil. India-side translation, even sworn-equivalent in Spain, is not accepted by Brazilian government use. See the Portuguese desk.

How does SiZA handle a Spain case end to end?

Indian-side work is what we do well: HRD or SDM as the document type asks, MEA apostille, English certified translation if the source is regional Indian language. The sworn Spanish step then happens in Spain by a traductor jurado. We coordinate that handoff and keep the original in custody until the documents is complete.

Customer ID and Document ID logged at intake. Photo and video proof of every stamp. Tracked courier return.

What we will not pretend

  • That SiZA is a traductor jurado. We are not.
  • That India-side certified Spanish translation works for Spanish civil registry. It does not.
  • That the Spain sworn translation is universal for Latin America. Each destination has its own rule.
  • That public prices apply. We quote per file.

Frequently asked questions

Is SiZA a traductor jurado?

No. SiZA itself is not authorised by MAEC as a traductor jurado. We coordinate Spanish sworn translation through translators authorised by MAEC in Spain. The sworn step happens in Spain.

Can I get the Spanish sworn translation done in India?

For Spain government use (NIE, civil registry, residence, most consular files), the sworn step has to be done in Spain by a traductor jurado. India-side certified Spanish translation is acceptable for some non-government uses but not for Spanish authority filing.

Does Mexico accept the Spanish sworn translation from Spain?

Not automatically. Mexican consulates have their own rules; some require Mexican-authorised translators, some accept apostille on the translation, some accept certified translation. We confirm the destination consulate's rule per case before quoting.

For Spain student visa, what is the order of work?

HRD attestation in the issuing state (for educational documents Spain or the Spanish university accepts), MEA apostille, then sworn Spanish translation in Spain by traductor jurado. Birth certificate and PCC follow similar order: SDM or PSK source, MEA apostille, sworn Spanish in Spain.

I am applying to a Spanish university that asks for course content translation. Can SiZA help?

Yes. Course content translation is technical and sits alongside the transcript. India-side certified Spanish translation works for some university equivalency processes; sworn Spanish in Spain works for all. We confirm per university.

My marriage certificate is in Marathi. What is the order of work for Spain?

Marathi to English certified translation first with notary handling. SDM countersign. MEA apostille. Then traductor jurado in Spain for the Spanish version. The Spanish sworn step is the last one.

How long does the Spanish sworn step take?

Standard turnaround is 2 to 3 working days from when the translator receives the scan. The Spanish Embassy in New Delhi accepts soft-copy sworn translation, so the translation does not need to physically ship from Spain. Urgent cases close in 1 working day on additional fee. We confirm the timeline with the translator at intake.

Do I need to send the Original for Spanish translation?

No. The traductor jurado works from a clear scan or photograph of the document. The sworn translation comes back as a soft-copy PDF with the translator's signature and stamp; the Spanish Embassy accepts this format directly. The Original stays with you. If apostille is also part of the work, the Original travels separately for the apostille leg.
