French Translation: Assermente for Campus France, OFII, Quebec 2026
Campus France, the French Office of Immigration and Integration (OFII), French civil registry offices, and Quebec immigration each read Indian documents in French translated by a traducteur assermente authorised by a French Cour d\'Appel or by a Quebec-recognised sworn translator. French is the translation case with an Original-document caveat: authorised French Embassy translators sometimes verify the source document against the Original where the document is not digitally verifiable (no DigiLocker QR, no online registrar check). Digitally verifiable documents (CoWIN, DigiLocker, MCA21, university online portals) translate from a scan alone. We confirm at intake which path applies. Belgium and Luxembourg are handled per case under their own translation authority rules.
French translation: key facts for 2026
- • Traducteur assermenté is per Cour d'Appel (Court of Appeal). Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse each maintain their own list. National recognition is the norm but local courts and notaires sometimes prefer locally-listed translators.
- • French is the translation case with an Original-document caveat. Authorised French Embassy translators sometimes verify the source document against the Original where the document is not digitally verifiable.
- • Digitally verifiable documents (CoWIN, DigiLocker, MCA21, university online portals) translate from a scan alone. Older paper birth, marriage, regional-language certificates without a digital trail may need the Original at the Embassy translator's end.
- • Campus France Études en France pre-screening sits independent of MEA apostille for Indian student visa files. Apostilled and assermenté-translated documents land in the Études en France portal before the French Embassy in Delhi reviews.
- • Quebec uses OTTIAQ-listed sworn translators (Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec). A France assermenté translation is not automatically recognised for Quebec CSQ or PEQ applications.
- • Belgium-Wallonia and French-speaking Africa (Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon) accept India-side translation for many uses; verify per destination consulate.

What is unusual about traducteur assermenté per Cour d'Appel?
Five rules that catch France, Quebec and Belgium files out.
French is the translation language that may need the Original
Translation work usually runs from a scan. French is the exception. Authorised French Embassy translators sometimes verify the document against the Original where the document is not digitally verifiable (no DigiLocker QR, no online registrar check, no other digital trail). For documents that are digitally verifiable (CoWIN, DigiLocker, university online portals, MCA21 e-records), the scan is enough. For documents that are not (older paper birth certificates, marriage certificates from sub-registrars without digital records, regional-language certificates from small councils), the Original may need to travel for the Embassy translator's verification step.
Assermenté is per Cour d'Appel
Each French Court of Appeal (Cour d'Appel) maintains its own list of traducteurs assermentés. Recognition is national for most uses, but local courts and notaries may prefer locally-listed translators.
Quebec is not France
Quebec's sworn-translator system is provincial, run under Quebec law. A France assermenté is not automatically accepted in Quebec, and vice versa. We confirm per file.
Certified French may be enough for some cases
For some non-government uses (private universities, employer files, internal company use), India-side certified French translation is acceptable. For French civil registry, OFII, prefecture and most government use, the sworn step happens in France.
OFII medical and other supplementary steps
OFII (Office Français de l'Immigration et de l'Intégration) runs medical and administrative checks on certain visa categories. French translation supports these but does not replace them.
Campus France pre-screening
Campus France pre-screens student applications. The pre-screening is separate from apostille and from sworn French translation. Both may apply.
How does SiZA handle a France or Quebec case end to end?
India-side: HRD or SDM as the document type asks, MEA apostille, English certified if the source is regional Indian language. The assermenté step then happens in France or Quebec.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to send the Original for French translation, or is a scan enough?
For most French translation work, a clear scan or photograph is enough; the Original does not need to travel. The exception is where the document is not digitally verifiable. Authorised French Embassy translators sometimes verify the source document against the Original in that case. DigiLocker-backed certificates, CoWIN downloads, MCA21 company records, university documents with online verification portals are digitally verifiable; the scan is enough. Older paper birth, marriage, and regional-language certificates without a digital trail may need the Original at the Embassy translator's end. We confirm at intake.
Is SiZA a traducteur assermenté?
No. SiZA itself is not authorised by any Cour d'Appel in France. We coordinate French sworn translation through assermenté translators in France.
For Campus France, do I need sworn French translation?
It depends on the French institution. Some universities accept India-side certified French translation; some require assermenté. Confirm with the institution before paying.
Quebec immigration is asking for French translation. Should it be Quebec-sworn?
For most Quebec immigration files, Quebec-authorised sworn translation is preferred where the destination authority asks for sworn status. India-side certified is acceptable for some non-government uses. We confirm per file.
My marriage certificate is in Tamil. What is the order for France?
Tamil to English certified translation first, with notary. SDM or Home countersign. MEA apostille. Then sworn French translation in France by assermenté.
Can the French sworn translation happen in India?
For most French government use, the sworn step has to be done in France by an assermenté translator. India-side certified French translation is acceptable for some non-government uses.
How long does the French assermenté step take?
Depends on the translator's queue. Typically 5 to 15 working days for a standard family or student pack. We get an estimate from the translator before accepting the file.
