CanadaApostille & Document Services from India

Canada is the busiest English-speaking destination on our desk. Study permit, LMIA work permit, Express Entry, PR, and spousal sponsorship all rely on the apostilled Indian document workflow landing right. We handle degree, transcripts, birth, marriage, and PCC together, plus certified French translation where Quebec or the CSQ side of the case asks for it.

Canada became a Hague Apostille member only on 11 January 2024. Before that, Indian documents for Canada went through Global Affairs Canada authentication plus Canadian Embassy attestation. Now, MEA apostille from India is the final step for most Canadian uses.

Overview

Canada is the busiest English-speaking desk on our wall and the case mix is broader than most people assume. Study permit applications to universities and colleges, Express Entry under the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class streams, the Provincial Nominee Programs across Ontario, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Atlantic provinces, Spousal Sponsorship for partners of Canadian PRs and citizens, and Family Sponsorship for parents and grandparents on the Super Visa.

The Canada document workflow shifted recently. From 11 January 2024 Canada accepts MEA apostille from India for documents that previously needed the older Global Affairs Canada plus Canadian Embassy attestation steps. So for any Indian-issued document going to IRCC, an ECA body or a Canadian provincial regulator after that date, MEA apostille is the final India-side stamp. We still see older agency content telling families to send originals to Canada for High Commission attestation. That is out of date.

India-side, the sequence is the same as for any Hague country. State HRD on educational documents, SDM or Home on personal documents, then MEA apostille. Indian-issued documents are mostly in English so a separate translation is usually not needed for the IRCC case.

ECA (Educational Credential Assessment) through WES Canada, IQAS, ICAS, ICES or CES is the credential evaluation step that gives you CRS points under Express Entry. It is separate from apostille. Most ECA bodies want the academic record sent directly from your Indian university in a sealed envelope, plus an apostilled copy on your side. We coordinate the apostilled copy and walk you through the parallel university-sealed-envelope request so both arrive together.

For Quebec, French is the working language. If your documents goes through Arrima or CSQ, or if you are sponsoring a spouse from outside Quebec to Quebec, certified French translation is usually required for the documents. We handle French translation through traducteur agréé translators acceptable to Quebec authorities.

Anglo-Sphere Credential Evaluation Compared

India side, by city & state

Where your Canada case usually starts in India

Indian-side authentication is state-led: educational documents go through your degree's issuing state HRD, and personal documents go through SDM or the Home Department of your domicile state. These are the state HRDs and city pickup pages most Canada cases actually run through.

Important Information & Requirements

Canada has been a Hague Apostille member since 11 January 2024. MEA apostille from India is the final India-side stamp. No Canadian Embassy attestation step now.

If you are reading older agency content that asks you to send documents to Canada for High Commission attestation, it is out of date for any document submitted after 11 January 2024.

ECA (Educational Credential Assessment) through WES Canada, IQAS, ICAS, ICES or CES is separate from apostille. Most ECA bodies want the university-sealed-envelope transcript plus an apostilled copy from you.

IELTS or CELPIP for English, TEF or TCF for French. English tests for federal programs. French tests for Quebec or to claim French CRS points.

Study permit needs an LOA from a Designated Learning Institution. PAL or TAL provincial attestation letter is now also required for most undergraduate study permit applications since 2024.

Super Visa for parents and grandparents asks for medical insurance for the visit period and a letter of invitation, more than apostille. The sponsor income proof is the gate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is apostille required for Canadian Express Entry?

Since 11 January 2024 Canada accepts MEA apostille from India. IRCC and the ECA bodies (WES Canada, IQAS, ICAS, ICES, CES) generally want apostilled Indian degree and transcripts as part of the documents. We handle State HRD on educational documents, MEA apostille and packaging for ECA submission end to end.

What changed for Canada on 11 January 2024?

Canada deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Apostille Convention and the Convention came into force for Canada on 11 January 2024. Before that, Indian documents for Canadian use went through Global Affairs Canada authentication plus Canadian Embassy or High Commission attestation. After that date, MEA apostille from India is recognised as the equivalent legalisation, so no Canadian Embassy attestation step is needed.

Do I need French translation for Canada immigration?

For most federal programs (Express Entry, study permit, work permit, PR), English is enough. For Quebec immigration via Arrima or CSQ, and for any document going to Quebec institutions or municipal authorities, certified French translation is usually required. We handle French translation through traducteur agréé translators acceptable to Quebec authorities.

I am sponsoring my spouse from India to Canada. What apostille do I need?

For Spousal Sponsorship under the family class, IRCC usually wants apostilled Indian marriage certificate (Home or SDM attestation, then MEA apostille). If you sponsored the relationship through a registered marriage, the original marriage certificate is the main civil document. Birth certificates of children may also need apostille for the family paperwork.
