When is HSC certificate apostille required?
Mostly at admission time. Czech, Polish and Italian medical programmes routinely ask for an apostilled Class 12 certificate, and credential evaluators like WES want it when they assess your full academic history. A few scholarship bodies and employers ask for it too, usually to verify schooling. For Saudi Arabia, which joined the Hague Convention in 2022, the HSC takes an apostille rather than embassy attestation.
Is HSC apostille needed for nursing jobs abroad?
Often, yes. Gulf and European nursing employers frequently ask for school certificates alongside the nursing diploma or BSc. For Saudi Arabia the HSC is apostilled. For the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait it goes through embassy attestation instead, because those are non-Hague. We read the employer or licensing checklist and prepare the school documents with the nursing credentials so the set moves together.
How long does HSC apostille take?
Roughly a week to ten days in most states, courier included. The one common delay is document condition. An old or damaged board certificate may need a duplicate from the board before anything can be attested, and board reissue timelines are their own world.
Does HSC need SDM attestation first?
Yes. The HSC is issued by a school board (CBSE, ICSE, or a state board), not a university, so the correct prior step is SDM or state Home Department attestation. State HRD does not apply to board certificates, and presenting an HSC at an HRD counter just sends the case back.

What is an apostille?
An apostille is a single official stamp issued by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on the back of an Indian document. Once placed, the document is accepted in any country that is a member of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, about 125 countries today, including the USA, UK, Italy, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia (since 2022), and Canada (since 2024). For non-Hague destinations such as UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, and Egypt, MEA apostille alone is not enough, the document needs MEA attestation plus the destination country's embassy attestation in India.
Is apostille required for Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia joined the Hague Apostille Convention in December 2022. For Indian documents going to Saudi Arabia today, MEA apostille (after the relevant pre-step, State HRD for educational documents, SDM or Home Department for civil documents) is the standard India-side authentication. The previous Saudi Embassy + Cultural Attaché route was discontinued in December 2022; some Saudi employers still ask for QVP / Mosaddaqa qualification verification or SCFHS DataFlow PSV separately for licensed professions.
