If you are an Indian software engineer heading to Canada on Express Entry, the part that trips people up is not the IELTS score, it is the paperwork: MEA apostille on your degree, marriage certificate and PCC, the state HRD attestation that has to come first, and the WES credential assessment that runs alongside. This guide walks you through every document, the realistic timing, and what SiZA handles for you from Noida.

In this guide(6 sections)
  1. 1.How does your Express Entry CRS score decide when your documents must be ready?

A senior software engineer at Razorpay Bengaluru, BTech in Computer Science from NIT Surathkal 2017, IELTS 8.5 overall, married with a four-year-old daughter, submitted his Canadian Express Entry profile in November 2025 with a Comprehensive Ranking System score of 478 (no Canadian job offer, no Provincial Nominee Program nomination). The Invitation to Apply came in the January 2026 draw. He had sixty days to upload a complete document set to IRCC. His Razorpay employment letter, the previous PhonePe employment letter, his BTech transcripts from NIT Surathkal, his class-twelve marksheet from Karnataka PUE Bengaluru, his marriage certificate from the Bengaluru Sub-Registrar, his daughter's birth certificate from the BBMP, his PCC from the Bengaluru Passport Seva Kendra Lalbagh, and his wife's degree from CMR Institute of Technology Bengaluru all needed apostille attestation. Canada became a Hague apostille destination for Indian documents on 11 January 2024, which cut the older Canadian High Commission embassy attestation step out of the path entirely. The Karnataka HRD attestation on the degree ran through the State Higher Education Department Multistoreyed Building Bengaluru. MEA apostille at Patiala House Delhi. The complete set landed at his Toronto-based Canadian immigration consultant's office in five weeks. PR confirmation arrived seventeen months later.

That is the most consistent path for Indian senior software engineers in 2026. Where the US has H-1B lottery randomness, EB-2 India backlogs in the decade range, and policy whiplash that shifts with each administration, Canada's Express Entry runs on a calculated, points-based ranking with relatively predictable timing. A 30-something Indian software engineer with a BTech from a Tier-1 institute, six years of relevant experience at Flipkart or Razorpay or PhonePe or one of the larger SaaS firms, IELTS 8.0 plus, and family with school-age children, can realistically expect Canadian PR within 18 to 24 months of submitting an Express Entry profile, often without a Canadian job offer in hand at the start. This page is the documentation guide for that move in 2026, covering apostille in India, degree attestation and certified translation, whether through Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Program nomination, or Global Talent Stream work permit. The full country picture sits on the Canada documentation guide.

How does your Express Entry CRS score decide when your documents must be ready?

Canada's Express Entry runs on a calculated points-based ranking, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The score is built from age, education, language proficiency (English and optionally French), work experience, and arranged employment. Unlike the US H-1B lottery, where outcome is random, Express Entry is predictable once the inputs are set. That predictability is why the documentation timing matters so much.

A typical 30-year-old Indian software engineer with a BTech (Bachelor's in engineering), six years of relevant skilled work experience, IELTS General Training 8.0 in each band, and no Canadian work experience or PNP nomination, lands a CRS score around 450 to 470. The Express Entry cut-off has fluctuated between 470 and 520 across 2024 and 2025 draws. So a score in the 450-470 range may sit in the pool for several draws before an Invitation to Apply arrives, or may never receive one if the cut-off stays high.

The lift to a comfortable CRS score (495 to 530, where ITA selection is almost certain) usually comes from one of three additions.

  • Provincial Nominee Program nomination: +600 points. This effectively guarantees an Invitation to Apply. Ontario OINP, BC PNP, Alberta AAIP, Saskatchewan SINP, Manitoba MPNP and New Brunswick NBPNP all run tech-skilled streams that target Indian software engineers. The full rules sit on the official IRCC Express Entry page.
  • A Canadian job offer in a TEER-0 or TEER-1 occupation: +50 points (200 points for senior management roles).
  • French at TEF Canada CLB 7: +50 points (CLB 9 adds 74 points), particularly valuable for the Express Entry category-based selection that favours French-speaking candidates.

The documentation timing has to fit the score path. A candidate going for a no-PNP, no-offer Express Entry profile needs the apostille bundle ready before the ITA window opens. A candidate pursuing a PNP nomination needs the apostille bundle ready before the PNP application, often months before any federal ITA.

What is the WES credential assessment, and why does it come before the apostille?

The WES Educational Credential Assessment is required for Express Entry candidates claiming education points for foreign credentials. The WES report is the document IRCC reads to assign Canadian-equivalent education points on the BTech, MTech or MCA degree.

The WES ECA process, step by step

  1. Open a WES Canada account at wes.org/ca and identify the issuing Indian university and the specific degree. WES maintains a database of recognised Indian universities. The IITs, NITs, IIITs, BITS Pilani, the older central universities and most state engineering universities are recognised. Some smaller or newer institutions trigger a manual review that adds three to six weeks.
  2. Have the university registrar send official transcripts directly to WES. The acceptable formats are a sealed envelope dispatched to the WES Toronto address, or electronic dispatch through DigiLocker for the universities that participate (most IITs, NITs, IIITs and the larger central universities do).
  3. Submit the apostilled degree to WES separately.
  4. Receive the ECA report, valid for five years from issue, and upload it to the Express Entry profile to claim education points.

Total WES timeline: seven to twenty working days after the transcript reaches WES, longer for universities that require manual review. The educational certificate attestation, meaning the state HRD attestation followed by MEA apostille on the degree, runs in India in parallel with this.

The apostille work in India often runs in parallel with the WES transcript dispatch. The apostilled set is in the candidate's hands and the WES report is on file by the time the Express Entry profile is submitted.

Which Indian documents need apostille for the Express Entry profile?

For the Indian software engineer planning Express Entry or a Canadian work permit application in 2026, the practical bundle for apostille attestation is:

  • Engineering degree (BTech, BE, MTech, MCA or relevant) with consolidated marksheet and university transcript. The transcript goes to WES separately; the apostilled degree goes to IRCC as part of the Express Entry profile.
  • Marriage certificate, so the spouse can be included as a dependant. The spouse's degree and experience can add CRS points (up to 40 for the spouse's education).
  • Birth certificate of each accompanying dependant child.
  • Police Clearance Certificate from the Passport Seva Kendra. IRCC asks for the PCC at the post-ITA stage from every country the candidate has lived in for six months or more since age 18.
  • Long-form birth certificate of the principal applicant. The long-form version is needed for OCI re-issue after Canadian naturalisation, which typically happens four to six years after PR.

Certified translation is rarely required because Indian engineering degrees and civil documents are issued in English. Where it does come up: a certified French translation by an OTTIAQ-registered sworn translator for candidates applying through the Quebec immigration system, which is handled by MIFI Quebec separately from federal Express Entry. Our certified translation team handles that sworn French translation when a Quebec file needs it.

How long does the apostille work in India take before you upload to IRCC?

For an Express Entry candidate planning to submit a profile within four to six weeks, the parallel timeline runs.

Step Where it happens Working days
State HRD attestation on the engineering degree Relevant state directorate (Karnataka SHED Bengaluru, Maharashtra Mantralaya Mumbai, Tamil Nadu DTE Guindy, Telangana SHED Tarnaka, AP SHED Mangalagiri, Punjab SHED Mohali, Haryana SHED Chandigarh, UP SED Lucknow, MP SHED Bhopal, West Bengal SHED Bidhan Bhavan Kolkata) 7 to 45
MEA apostille on the bundled set (degree, marksheets, transcript, marriage certificate, birth certificates, PCC) Patiala House Delhi counter 3 to 5
PSK PCC issuance with police verification at the home address Engineer's home Passport Seva Kendra 7 to 21
Long-form birth certificate re-issue (where the pre-2000 short form is on file) Issuing Municipal Corporation 7 to 21

Total parallel timeline: four to six weeks. The HRD attestation is the slow part, anywhere from about seven to forty-five working days depending on the state and the university, so it sets the pace. Time it so the apostilled set is ready before the WES report arrives, which means the Express Entry profile can be submitted as a complete file the day the ECA comes through.

Which Canadian cities and employers hire Indian software engineers in 2026?

The largest concentrations of Indian engineering talent in Canadian tech break down geographically.

Toronto and the Waterloo corridor

Shopify (headquartered in Ottawa but with the largest engineering team in Toronto), OpenText, Lightspeed Commerce, Wattpad (now part of Naver), Kinaxis and the BlackBerry IoT division. The bank tech teams at RBC Borealis (AI research), TD Bank, BMO, CIBC and Scotiabank. Plus the Toronto offices of US-headquartered firms: Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple and Nvidia.

Vancouver and the Lower Mainland

The Microsoft Vancouver campus (the largest non-US Microsoft engineering hub for several years), Amazon Vancouver, EA Sports Vancouver, Hootsuite and Slack Vancouver (now part of Salesforce), plus the smaller Canadian-origin firms D-Wave Systems, AbCellera and Sanctuary AI.

Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton

Montreal carries Element AI legacy roles (now part of ServiceNow), the Mila AI research cluster around the University of Montreal, Ubisoft Montreal, Behaviour Interactive and the Bell Canada IT teams. Ottawa has Shopify HQ, Ross Video, You.i TV (now part of WarnerMedia), Ciena, Mitel, and the federal government tech teams that hire on permanent-resident or citizen status only. Calgary and Edmonton hold the smaller scene around Benevity and Solium (now Shareworks at Morgan Stanley), plus the energy-sector IT teams at Suncor, Shell Canada and Cenovus.

What does SiZA handle from Noida, and what stays with IRCC?

A Canada software engineer file reaches SiZA at the Express Entry profile stage (before any ITA) or after a Canadian job offer or PNP nomination. The candidate sends the engineering degree, marksheets, transcript, marriage certificate, children's birth certificates, passport and any prior attestations on WhatsApp to +91 9220161774. We confirm which state HRD attestation path applies, advise on WES transcript dispatch timing, and lay out the cost and time end to end before any original moves.

When the originals reach our Noida office at C-25, C Block, Sector 8, the work runs state HRD attestation where applicable, MEA apostille on the bundled academic and civil documents at Patiala House Delhi, PSK PCC coordination where the engineer's current PCC has expired, and tracked return courier to the engineer or to the Canadian immigration consultant's office. Canada became a Hague apostille destination for Indian documents on 11 January 2024, which removed the older Canadian High Commission attestation step entirely. The apostilled set is ready for the Express Entry profile upload, PNP application, work permit application or post-ITA processing.

What SiZA does not handle: the IELTS or TEF Canada language exams, the Express Entry profile creation (the candidate creates and manages it directly), the WES ECA submission, the IRCC ITA selection, the Provincial Nominee Program application (handled by the candidate or their immigration consultant), or the post-arrival landing process.
