AustraliaApostille & Document Services from India

Australia documentation involve a skills assessment by ACS, VETASSESS, Engineers Australia, ANMAC, or the relevant assessor, then a visa under subclass 500, 189, 190, 482, or 491. The Indian side stays the same across all of them. We apostille the degree, transcripts, birth certificate, marriage certificate, and PCC, and arrange certified translation where the assessing authority asks for it.

NAATI-certified translation by a translator on the NAATI register is the Australian gold standard for any non-English document, and the Department of Home Affairs, AHPRA and most skills-assessment bodies treat it as the default. Translations done in India by non-NAATI translators are often re-translated on the Australian side.

Overview

Australia runs on four desks for us. Student Visa (Subclass 500) for Indian students at Group of Eight universities and TAFE colleges. The General Skilled Migration points-based visas: Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent), 190 (Skilled Nominated by a state or territory) and 491 (Skilled Work Regional). Employer-sponsored 482 (Skills in Demand) and 186 (Employer Nomination) visas. And Partner and Family visas for spouses, parents and children joining a PR or citizen in Australia.

Australia is Hague. State HRD on educational documents, SDM or Home on personal documents, then MEA apostille. Indian-issued documents are mostly in English so a separate translation is usually not needed for the visa application itself, but the skills assessment body almost always wants more than just an apostille.

The skills assessment is what holds most Indian GSM cases. The assessing authority depends on your occupation. Engineers Australia for engineers, ACS (Australian Computer Society) for IT professionals, AHPRA for doctors, nurses and allied health, CPA Australia or CA ANZ for accountants, VETASSESS for trades and a long list of professional occupations, ANMAC for nurses going via the migration pathway, AITSL for teachers. Each body has its own document checklist, but the input format is the same: apostilled degree, transcripts and experience certificates from India, packaged in the way that body expects. We prepare that.

For healthcare professionals applying to AHPRA, the case is heavier. AHPRA wants apostilled medical or nursing degree, registration certificate from the relevant Indian council (MCI now NMC, Indian Nursing Council, Pharmacy Council of India, Dental Council of India), Good Standing Certificate from your state council, and English-language testing (OET or IELTS or PTE Academic). We handle the apostille steps end to end and time the good-standing request alongside.

For translations: NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) certified translation is the Australian standard. Where an Indian document is not in English (a regional-language degree, an older affidavit) we coordinate NAATI translation alongside the apostille. Translation by a general translator in India is sometimes rejected by Home Affairs or the assessing body. NAATI-credentialed translators in India do exist and we use them.

Anglo-Sphere Credential Evaluation Compared

For Indian professionals, the credential evaluator is the gate that decides whether your degree opens the visa, the licence, or the job. Six English-speaking destinations side by side: who evaluates, what they want apostilled, and the catch most Indian families miss.

India side, by city & state

Where your Australia case usually starts in India

Indian-side authentication is state-led: educational documents go through your degree's issuing state HRD, and personal documents go through SDM or the Home Department of your domicile state. These are the state HRDs and city pickup pages most Australia cases actually run through.

Important Information & Requirements

Australia accepts MEA apostille as the final India-side stamp. No Australian embassy attestation step.

NAATI-certified translation is the Australian translation standard. Where translation is needed, prefer NAATI-credentialed translators over general Indian translation.

For GSM, the skills assessment is the gate that decides whether the visa even opens. Apostille and good-standing requests should be timed to that, not to the visa lodgement.

AHPRA for healthcare wants apostilled degree, registration from the Indian council, Good Standing Certificate from your state council, and English testing (OET, IELTS, PTE).

Engineers Australia (Engineering Skills Assessment) and ACS (for IT) both want apostilled degree and transcripts plus a Competency Demonstration Report or RPL document. The CDR is your writing, not ours.

Student Visa Subclass 500 needs a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a CRICOS-registered institution. The visa file leans on the CoE more than on apostille.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does AHPRA require apostilled documents from India?

Yes. AHPRA registration for Indian doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and allied health professionals wants apostilled medical or professional degree, registration certificate from the relevant Indian council, and Good Standing Certificate from your state council. We handle State HRD plus MEA apostille on each, and we time the good-standing request to land with the apostille so the documents go to AHPRA in one package.

Do I need NAATI translation for Australian immigration?

Where the source document is in English (which most Indian-issued documents are), no separate translation is needed. Where the source document is not in English, NAATI-certified translation is the Australian standard. Translations by general translators in India are sometimes re-translated on the Australian side, which is wasted money. We use NAATI-credentialed translators in India where translation is needed.

I am going for the 189 Skilled Independent Visa. What is the document workflow?

For Subclass 189, the skills assessment by your occupation's assessing body is the gate. The body wants apostilled degree, transcripts and experience certificates from India. After a positive skills assessment, you submit an Expression of Interest in SkillSelect. If invited, the visa application asks for the same apostilled documents plus PCC, medical and English testing. The India-side steps is State HRD or SDM, MEA apostille, NAATI translation where needed.

My passport has ECR. Can I still travel to Australia on a Subclass 500 student visa?

ECR (Emigration Check Required) status applies primarily to certain employment-visa scenarios. Student travel to Australia on a CoE often does not need POE Emigration Clearance, but the rules around ECR change. Check your passport status and the current POE rules with the Protector of Emigrants office before the visa appointment.
