Portugal is a Hague Apostille country and accepts Indian MEA apostille. Most academic, civil, and visa files additionally need certified Portuguese translation; depending on the receiving authority, this is either a sworn / notarised translation in India followed by Portuguese consular legalisation, or a Portuguese translator-certified version. Portuguese translation depends on the receiving authority. SEF (the Portuguese immigration service, now restructured as AIMA) and most government bodies accept Portuguese translation done by a Portuguese-side translator and certified by a Portuguese notary, lawyer (advogado), or solicitador. Indian-side certified Portuguese translation followed by Portuguese consular legalisation of the translation also works for some cases. We coordinate after the apostille to match what the specific recipient accepts.
For regulated professions, doctors register with Ordem dos Médicos, nurses with Ordem dos Enfermeiros, engineers with Ordem dos Engenheiros, and lawyers with Ordem dos Advogados. Each Ordem has its own document checklist. We package apostilled and translated input documents.
NIF (Portuguese tax number) and SEF/AIMA residence-permit appointment are post-arrival or parallel steps in Portugal. They are not India-side and not apostille-related, but they affect timeline so we mention them upfront.
