Does Japan accept MEA apostille from India?
Yes. Japan has been a Hague Apostille member since 27 July 1970. MEA apostille is the final India-side stamp. No Japanese embassy attestation step.
Do I need Japanese translation if my degree is already in English?
Usually yes. Indian degrees are often issued in English, but Japanese ministries, universities and most employers still expect a notarised Japanese translation of the document including the apostille text. The English original stays in the file; the Japanese translation sits with it.
What is the COE and is it the same as the visa?
No. The Certificate of Eligibility (COE) is issued by Japanese immigration to the Japanese sponsor (employer or university). Once the COE arrives in India, the visa application goes to the Embassy or Consulate of Japan. The COE is a Japan-side step. The apostille and Japanese translation are India-side inputs.
