Hague Apostille Convention member
Japan accepts MEA apostille since 1970
For Indian documents going to Japan, the India-side chain ends at MEA apostille, no destination embassy attestation is required. The pre-MEA step depends on document type (State HRD for educational, SDM or Home Department for civil, Chamber of Commerce for commercial). Certified translation is paired separately where the receiving authority requires it.
Japan apostille work from India is one of the lighter Hague chains for Indian applicants because Japanese authorities frequently accept Indian English-language documents alongside Japanese translation, rather than insisting on sworn-only Japanese translation. The India-side chain is State HRD (educational) or SDM / Home Department (civil) before MEA apostille. After apostille, certified Japanese translation by a translator who can issue a translator-certified declaration is the standard expectation, the specific format (notarised, agency-certified, translator-affidavit) is decided by the receiving Japanese authority.
Japan handles applicant categories in distinct lanes that map closely to Japanese visa classes: Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services (the largest single category for Indian IT, finance and management roles), Highly Skilled Professional (a points-based fast track), Skilled Labor, Student, Dependent and Designated Activities. The Indian degree is evaluated by the immigration office or the receiving employer based on apostille plus Japanese translation; for university admissions, Japanese universities run their own document verification additionally.
Most Indian-to-Japan files break down into three operational situations: an IT or engineering professional with a job offer from a Japanese employer needing apostilled degree and transcript with Japanese translation; a student admission file at a Japanese university needing the same plus financial proof; and a family or dependent visa where civil documents need to be apostilled and translated. Where the receiving Japanese authority asks for translator-certified Japanese specifically rather than agency-certified, we coordinate that through registered translators.
Send a clear scan of the document set on WhatsApp +91-9220161774 with the Japanese recipient named in one line (employer (and visa category), university admission, dependant visa, or other) and the deadline. SiZA Global confirms the chain, the realistic working-day timeline for your State HRD, the Japanese translation format the receiving authority wants, and a written quote that separates HRD fee, MEA fee, Japanese translation fee and SiZA service fee before originals move.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an apostille?
An apostille is a single official stamp issued by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on the back of an Indian document. Once placed, the document is accepted in any country that is a member of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, about 125 countries today, including the USA, UK, Italy, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia (since 2022), and Canada (since 2024). For non-Hague destinations such as UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, and Egypt, MEA apostille alone is not enough, the document needs MEA attestation plus the destination country's embassy attestation in India.
Is apostille required for Saudi Arabia?
Saudi Arabia joined the Hague Apostille Convention in December 2022. For Indian documents going to Saudi Arabia today, MEA apostille (after the relevant pre-step, State HRD for educational documents, SDM or Home Department for civil documents) is the standard India-side authentication. The previous Saudi Embassy + Cultural Attaché route was discontinued in December 2022; some Saudi employers still ask for QVP / Mosaddaqa qualification verification or SCFHS DataFlow PSV separately for licensed professions. SiZA Global confirms which parallel tracks apply to your specific Saudi file at scan review.
