South Korea is a Hague Apostille country (since 2007) and accepts Indian MEA apostille. Most academic, civil, and visa files additionally need certified Korean translation; for student documents, GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) applications typically require apostilled and notarised-translated documents. The India-side steps is state-level pre-attestation → MEA apostille → certified Korean translation.

Overview

South Korea runs busiest on three desks for us. Indian IT and engineering professionals joining Seoul and Suwon firms (Samsung, LG, Hyundai supply chain) on E-7 specialist visas. KGSP (Korean Government Scholarship Program) students at Seoul National University, KAIST, POSTECH and Yonsei. And family residence cases for spouses and children joining workers already settled in Korea.

South Korea is Hague. State HRD on educational documents, SDM or Home on personal documents, then MEA apostille. That is the India-side steps.

The translation is the gate. Korean ministries, KGSP, the Ministry of Justice immigration office, and most Korean universities and employers expect notarised Korean translation done after apostille so the apostille text is also translated. A general English-Korean translation done in India is usually not accepted.

For KGSP applications, the Embassy of Korea in New Delhi and the partner universities each have their own document set. We pace the apostille and notarised translation to land before the KGSP scholarship deadline so the case does not stall.

Attestation / Documentation Process

3

4

Asia-Pacific Destinations Compared

Six Asian destinations grouped by what Indian families actually need from the India side. Three are Hague (Japan, Korea, and Thailand once it enters into force). Three are non-Hague and still need embassy or consular authentication in Delhi. The translation rule varies per country.

India side, by city & state

Where your South Korea case usually starts in India

Indian-side authentication is state-led: educational documents go through your degree's issuing state HRD, and personal documents go through SDM or the Home Department of your domicile state. These are the state HRDs and city pickup pages most South Korea cases actually run through.

Timeline, Cost Factors & Rejection Risks

Typical Timeline

India-side MEA apostille is 2-3 working days after readiness; State HRD before MEA varies by state. We confirm the committed schedule after reviewing the case.

Cost Depends On

Document type and issuing state
HRD requirement for educational documents
Korean translation page count and certification format (notarised or apostille-attached)
Visa type: D-2 student, E-7 skilled worker, F-6 marriage, dependent
GKS scholarship supporting paperwork
Urgency and pickup city

Common Rejection Reasons

Submitting documents without certified Korean translation where the Korean university or employer requires it
Missing State HRD for educational documents needed for GKS or university admission
Incomplete GKS scholarship document set
Name mismatch across passport, degree, and Korean visa-application documents

How SiZA Global Handles It

Reviews the Korean recipient instruction (university, employer, embassy, immigration office) before processing
Coordinates HRD, MEA apostille, and certified Korean translation
Packages documents for D-2 student, GKS scholarship, E-7 skilled worker, and F-6 marriage pathways
Tracks documents end-to-end

Important Information & Requirements

Korea accepts MEA apostille as the final India-side stamp. No Korean embassy attestation step.

Notarised Korean translation is the rule, done after apostille. Translation by a general translator in India is usually not accepted by Korean ministries, universities or employers.

KGSP deadlines are tight and the document checklist changes year to year. Start the apostille well before the scholarship window opens.

E-7 specialist visa cases lean on the apostilled degree, experience certificates and (for some roles) Good Standing from the Indian professional body.

Indian passport visa stamping happens at the Embassy of Korea in New Delhi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Korea accept MEA apostille from India?

Yes. South Korea has been a Hague Apostille member since 14 July 2007. MEA apostille is the final India-side stamp. No Korean embassy attestation step.

Do I need Korean translation if my degree is in English?

Usually yes. Indian degrees are often issued in English, but Korean ministries, KGSP, universities and most employers still expect a notarised Korean translation of the document including the apostille text. The English original stays in the file; the Korean translation sits with it.

What does the KGSP document set look like?

KGSP requires apostilled and notarised-Korean-translated degree, transcripts, recommendation letters, and personal documents like birth certificate. The exact list changes by intake year and degree level. We pace the apostille and translation to land before the KGSP submission deadline at the Embassy of Korea or the partner university.
