A senior semiconductor verification engineer from Samsung R&D Institute Bengaluru, MTech VLSI from IIT Madras 2014, BTech Electronics from PSG Tech Coimbatore 2012, seven years at SRI Bengaluru on memory-controller verification for the Samsung Exynos and DDR5 programmes, with a Samsung Electronics offer for a senior staff verification engineer role at the Hwaseong campus in Gyeonggi Province in hand. KRW 110 million annual base on an E-7-1 specialist visa. The Samsung HR file in Suwon needed apostille on his IIT Madras MTech degree and consolidated grade sheet, MEA apostille on his PSG Tech BTech, MEA apostille on his class-twelve Tamil Nadu State Board certificate, certified Korean translation by a Korea-listed sworn translator (the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Delhi maintains a list), MEA apostille on his marriage certificate from the Coimbatore Sub-Registrar, and a fresh PCC from the Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra. South Korea has been a Hague apostille destination for Indian documents since 14 July 2007, so the degree attestation stayed clean through MEA apostille at Patiala House without needing the older Korean Embassy attestation step. The Tamil Nadu HRD step ran through the Directorate of Technical Education Guindy. MEA apostille at Patiala House Delhi. Roughly four weeks end to end. His E-7-1 visa was stamped at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Delhi the following week. On the typical timeline, arrival is at Incheon in October 2026 for the Hwaseong start.
That sequence is the sequence behind most Indian engineer and researcher moves to South Korea in 2026. South Korea has become a serious option for Indian engineers and researchers in the last five years. The Korean semiconductor industry, the electronics giants, and the new wave of Korean AI and robotics companies are all hiring outside Korea more openly than they used to. Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, Hyundai Mobis, Naver, Kakao, Coupang Engineering, and the smaller Korean deep-tech and AI startups now hire Indian PhD holders, senior software engineers, hardware engineers, and researchers with five or more years of work behind them. The Korean E-7 specialist visa route is now a clear and predictable path. This page is for the Indian engineer or researcher who is considering a Korean job, has been offered a Korean position, or is planning to apply through the D-10 job-seeking visa.
E-7 or D-10: which Korean work visa fits an Indian engineer?
The E-7 is the main work visa for skilled non-Korean professionals and the path in around 85 percent of Indian engineering cases. The Korean employer files the E-7 application with the Ministry of Justice through its local Immigration Office, using the apostilled and Korean-translated credentials you prepared in India. The application includes:
- The candidate's apostilled credentials and certified Korean translation
- The role description and salary offer
- The employer's business registration
- Proof that the role qualifies under the E-7 occupation list
Processing takes four to eight weeks for most files.
After the E-7 is pre-approved, the candidate applies for a visa stamp at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in New Delhi or the Korean consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Visa stamping takes five to ten working days. The candidate then travels to Korea and applies for the Alien Registration Card (ARC) at the local Immigration Office within ninety days of arrival.
The E-7 is typically issued for one to three years. Renewal is straightforward as long as employment continues. After five years on E-7, the candidate can apply for the F-2 long-term residence permit, and after a further period for F-5 permanent residence.
The D-10 job-seeking visa is the alternative for candidates who want to interview in Korea before committing to one offer. Six months of residence in Korea to attend interviews and complete the hiring process. Extendable for another six months in some cases. The D-10 is points-based. Indian engineering candidates with strong academic credentials and Korean language ability typically qualify. After the candidate finds an employer and signs an offer, the D-10 converts to an E-7 from inside Korea, which is faster than applying for the E-7 from India.
Which documents need apostille and certified Korean translation, and how long does it take?
South Korea has been a Hague Apostille destination for Indian documents since 14 July 2007. MEA apostille in India is the standard authentication for Korean immigration use, so there is no Korean embassy attestation and no MOFA-style stamp in the way a Gulf file would have. The educational certificate attestation, the civil papers and the certified Korean translation all finish in Delhi before the file flies.
| Step | What gets done | Working days |
|---|---|---|
| State HRD attestation | Degree attestation on the engineering degree at the relevant state directorate before MEA apostille: Karnataka SHED Multistoreyed Building Bengaluru for IISc and Samsung R&D Institute graduates; Tamil Nadu DTE Guindy for IIT Madras and PSG Tech; Maharashtra Mantralaya Mumbai for IIT Bombay, COEP, VJTI; Telangana SHED Tarnaka for IIIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani Hyderabad; AP SHED Mangalagiri; Punjab SHED Mohali; UP SED Lucknow. This is the HRD attestation step | 7 to 45 |
| MEA apostille | The MEA apostille counter work at Patiala House Delhi on the degree, marksheets, university transcript, marriage certificate, birth certificates of any joining children, and PCC | 3 to 5 |
| Certified Korean translation | A certified translation by a Korean-listed sworn translator (the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Delhi maintains the list), for a complete academic and civil set | 5 to 7 |
| PSK Police Clearance Certificate | Needed for the E-7 visa application and for later ARC issuance, with police verification | 7 to 21 |
SiZA Multi Lingual Translators handles certified Korean translation accepted by Korean employers, the E-7 application, the consulate, and post-arrival immigration use. State HRD attestation is the slow link, roughly 7 to 45 working days depending on the state and the university, so start the degree attestation first.
With MEA apostille in India and the translation moving in parallel, the full set is usually ready in five to eight weeks.
Do you need to know Korean to apply for an engineering job in Korea?
For senior engineering roles at Samsung, LG, SK Hynix and Hyundai, internal communication often happens in English at the team level, especially in R&D divisions with heavy international hiring. TOPIK certification is not required at the application stage in most cases.
For daily life in Seoul, Suwon, Daejeon, Busan or any Korean city, basic Korean (TOPIK Level 2 equivalent, conversational basics) makes life much easier. Apartment hunting, supermarket use, public transport, doctor visits and most administrative encounters happen in Korean.
For the F-2 long-term residence application after five years on E-7, the candidate needs Korean Immigration Integration Programme (KIIP) participation, which includes Korean language and Korean society modules. Plan for it early.
What do senior Indian engineers and researchers earn in South Korea?
Senior Indian engineers at Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and LG typically earn KRW 65 million to KRW 100 million per year base in 2026 (approximately INR 42 lakh to INR 65 lakh). Senior PhD researchers at KAIST and the industrial research institutes earn KRW 70 million to KRW 110 million depending on role and funding source.
Korean work culture is more structured and hierarchical than typical US or UK tech employers. Working hours are long by international standards. Compensation is competitive. The lifestyle is closer to a Japanese tech employer than a Singapore or US one. Senior candidates should think about whether this fits their life stage before signing.
Which Korean companies hire Indian engineers and researchers?
Five employer clusters absorb most senior Indian engineer and researcher moves to South Korea today.
Semiconductor giants
Samsung Electronics is the single largest employer of Indian engineers in Korea. The Samsung campus in Suwon and the newer Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek fabs hire:
- Process engineers and memory design engineers
- Foundry technology specialists
- Software engineers for system semiconductors
SK Hynix runs a similar pipeline at its Icheon and Cheongju sites, with strong demand for DRAM, NAND and packaging engineers.
Consumer electronics and batteries
LG Electronics, LG Display, LG Innotek and LG Chem all run global R&D programmes that hire Indian engineering talent. Samsung Display and Samsung SDI (battery) are active hirers too.
Automotive
Hyundai Motor, Kia, Hyundai Mobis and the Hyundai Motor Group's R&D centre in Namyang hire Indian automotive engineers for EV, autonomous driving and connected vehicle programmes. The Hyundai-Aptiv autonomous-driving joint venture (Motional) also recruits from India.
Internet platforms and gaming
Naver, Kakao, Coupang and the Korean gaming companies (Nexon, NCsoft, Krafton, Smilegate) have opened English-medium engineering roles to Indian candidates. Krafton has a strong India connection through PUBG and Battlegrounds Mobile India and runs a Bengaluru office that feeds senior transfers to Seoul.
Research institutes and universities
KAIST in Daejeon and Seoul National University run research labs that bring in Indian PhDs and postdocs. KIST, ETRI, KRISS and the Korean industrial research institutes also hire Indian researchers, often on KOFST or Brain Korea programme funding. These offer files almost always ask for apostille attestation on the PhD degree and a sworn Korean translation of the full academic record.
How does SiZA handle your apostille and certified Korean translation from Noida?
A Korea engineering or research file reaches SiZA after the Korean employer's E-7 invitation has been issued, or earlier if the candidate is planning documentation in advance of applying.
What you send us first
The candidate sends these on WhatsApp to +91 9220161774:
- The engineering or PhD degree, marksheets and transcript
- The dissertation summary and supervisor letters, where applicable
- Experience letters from each Indian employer
- Marriage certificate and children's birth certificates
- A copy of the passport
We then tell the candidate, in writing, which state HRD path applies, what the certified Korean translation set will need, the realistic timeline and the cost end to end.
What we run once originals reach Noida
When the originals reach our Noida office at C-25, C Block, Sector 8, the work runs in this order:
- HRD attestation on the degree where the issuing state requires it.
- MEA apostille at Patiala House Delhi on the bundled academic and civil documents.
- Certified Korean translation by listed sworn translators.
- Tracked return of originals through documented courier.
The apostilled and translated set is in the candidate's hands ready for the E-7 visa application at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea or consulates in India.
What SiZA does not do: file the E-7 with the Korean Ministry of Justice (the Korean employer files), sit the TOPIK exam, negotiate the Korean employment contract, handle the Alien Registration Card application in Korea, or apply for F-2 long-term residence or F-5 permanent residence later.
