Certified Translation Services for Belgium Documents

For each language, Belgium has its own sworn translator system. A beëdigd vertaler is a court-sworn Dutch translator, used for Flanders submissions. A traducteur juré is a court-sworn French translator, used for Wallonia. There are also sworn German translators for the eastern community. We work with translators in all three systems, and we pick the right one based on the Belgian region you tell us at scan review.

The order of work is the same regardless of language. We do the apostille on the Indian side first, then the translation. If the translation is done before the apostille, the apostille stamp itself ends up in English or French and the Belgian office cannot read it cleanly. Doing the translation after means the whole document, including the apostille stamp and the HRD or SDM seal, is in the right Belgian language from one translator.

Belgium's three-language reality has practical consequences for Indian applicants. A degree certificate going from Bangalore to the Université Catholique de Louvain (Wallonia) needs French sworn translation by a traducteur juré on the Belgian francophone register. The same degree going to KU Leuven or Universiteit Gent (Flanders) needs Dutch sworn translation by a beëdigd vertaler on the Belgian Dutch register. A degree going to a Brussels-region authority can use either, but most Brussels universities (ULB, VUB) signal language preference in their admission instructions; we read those instructions before commissioning translation. The wrong-language sworn translation, even when otherwise perfectly executed, is rejected at the receiving Belgian authority and the work has to be redone.

The Belgian region-language rule cascades into healthcare licensure. An Indian doctor or nurse going to Flanders applies through the Vlaamse Gezondheidsraad with Dutch sworn translation of MBBS degree, NMC registration, Indian Medical Council Good Standing certificate, internship completion, and work-experience certificates. The same Indian doctor going to Wallonia applies through the Commission de Médecine (under Service Public Fédéral Santé Publique) with French sworn translation of the same bundle. The federal-level Belgian medical-qualification recognition (Anerkenning / Reconnaissance) sits over both, but the documentary submission goes through the region authority in the region language. Mismatched-language submissions are bounced.

Belgian commune freshness rules are stricter than most of Europe and trip up Indian families. A marriage certificate for civil-registration submission at an Antwerp, Ghent, Liège, or Charleroi commune is typically expected within 3 months of the original Indian sub-registrar issue date (some communes 6 months; verify per commune). Birth certificates for newborn registration similarly. Single status affidavits for upcoming marriage at a Belgian commune within 6 months. We work backward from the commune appointment date. The MEA apostille is the legal-recognition layer; the freshness window is reading the underlying Indian source-document date, not the apostille date.

The Belgian Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs (FPS Foreign Affairs / SPF Affaires étrangères) accepts apostilled-and-sworn-translated Indian documents directly without further legalisation since both India and Belgium are Hague Convention members. The Belgian Embassy in New Delhi handles visa applications through VFS Belgium India centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata. The Belgian Consulate in Mumbai handles Western and Southern India consular work. Where the Belgian destination is a Brussels-region office that genuinely accepts either French or Dutch, we default to the language SiZA can route faster on the active translator availability and we name the choice at intake. Where the destination is a Wallonia office with documentary clarity (e.g., a specific Wallon commune named in correspondence), we use French sworn. Where Flanders is named, we use Dutch sworn. We do not double-translate as a hedge: that creates a different problem because the receiving authority sees two translations and asks which is authoritative. You can't mess with people's Original documents on a Belgium case.
