Translate after apostille, translator format matters

  1. 1

France and Quebec have different translation rules. France visa applications (long-stay, Talent Passport, student) typically need traducteur assermenté (court-sworn translator) translation. Quebec immigration (CSQ, Arrima profile) is more flexible and accepts certified translation with notarisation.

  2. 2

For France student visa via Campus France, the typical sequence is: India-side apostille (MEA) → certified French translation → Campus France submission. Some visa categories (Talent Passport, scientist visa) may need additional translation steps in France after arrival.

  3. 3

For Quebec PR via Arrima, French translation of degree, marksheet, marriage certificate, birth certificate, and experience letters is part of the credential dossier. Quebec evaluator MIFI may also require attestation of comparison (comparaison des études).

  4. 4

African Francophone countries (Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cameroon) often accept India-issued French translation for business and immigration purposes, different from France domestic rules. Confirm destination requirement first.

  5. 5

France's traducteur assermenté system runs through each Cour d'Appel (Court of Appeal) maintaining its own list of court-sworn translators. The Cour d'Appel de Paris, Cour d'Appel de Lyon, Cour d'Appel de Marseille, Cour d'Appel de Bordeaux, and Cour d'Appel de Toulouse cover the most common French regions Indian applicants need translation for. A translator on the Paris list is recognised across France for most uses, but some prefectures and local notaires prefer locally-listed translators for départemental court matters.

  6. 6

Campus France pre-screening adds a layer that catches Indian students at intake. Campus France runs the academic pre-screening (Études en France procedure) for Indian-applicant student visa files: degree, transcripts, school leaving certificate, French language proof, financial means, all uploaded to the Études en France portal. The French embassy in New Delhi reviews the Campus France pre-screening before issuing the long-stay D visa for studies. Apostilled-and-French-translated documents land in this portal; we route through assermenté translators familiar with the Campus France format expectations.

  7. 7

Quebec immigration through the Arrima profile system reads French translation done by a Quebec-recognised sworn translator (OTTIAQ-listed: Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec). A France assermenté translation is not automatically recognised in Quebec; for CSQ (Certificat de sélection du Québec) and PEQ (Programme de l'expérience québécoise) applications, OTTIAQ translation is the safer route. We coordinate with OTTIAQ-listed translators for Quebec-bound work.

  8. 8

Common French-bound bundles for France: Campus France student visa (degree + transcripts + Class 12 board record + financial means); Talent Passport for skilled employment (degree + experience + employment contract + salary commitment + diplôme reconnu equivalence where applicable); Salarié work visa for standard employment; family-reunion (regroupement familial) visa for spouse, child, or parent of a French-resident sponsor through the OFII process; PACS partnership or civil marriage at the French Mairie. For French-Lusophone Africa (Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon), French translation by India-side translator often suffices; we confirm per destination.

  9. 9

You can't mess with people's Original documents on a France case. The degree going to Campus France's Études en France pre-screening, the marriage certificate going to OFII for family reunion, the PCC for the Long-Stay D visa, the experience certificate for the Talent Passport route; we run the State HRD or SDM, the MEA apostille, and the traducteur assermenté translation in France by a translator on the Cour d'Appel of the destination region's list. Inter-city legs use Blue Dart, DHL, FedEx, DTDC Premium, UPS. We do not use Porter, Wefast, Borzo or similar third-party parcel apps. WhatsApp the scan and the French destination; for Quebec cases we route through OTTIAQ translators specifically, not through France assermenté translators.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do documents need certified translation?

Certified translation is required when an Indian document is submitted to a foreign authority whose working language is not English. Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Russia, the GCC (Arabic), and many others ask for certified translation alongside (or after) the apostille. The format varies, Italy uses Embassy-empanelled translators, Germany uses sworn translators (vereidigter Übersetzer), Spain uses Traductor Jurado, Czech Republic uses soudní tlumočník. SiZA Global confirms the accepted format for the receiving authority before translation begins.
