A senior regulatory affairs scientist from Novartis Hyderabad, PhD Pharmaceutical Sciences from National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali (NIPER Mohali) 2014, eight years at Novartis Hyderabad including a two-year FDA submissions rotation in East Hanover New Jersey, with a Novartis Basel direct-hire offer for a Global Regulatory Affairs Lead role at the Basel headquarters in hand. CHF 175,000 annual base on a Swiss Permit B (initial residence permit, valid one year then renewed). The Novartis HR file in Basel needed apostille on her NIPER Mohali PhD certificate and transcript, MEA apostille on her MPharm from JSS College of Pharmacy Mysuru, MEA apostille on her BPharm from JSS College of Pharmacy Ooty, MEA apostille on the class-twelve Karnataka State Board certificate, certified German translation by a Swiss-Embassy-listed translator (Basel is in the German-speaking canton, so Hochdeutsch translation is the standard), MEA apostille on her marriage certificate from the Hyderabad Sub-Registrar, and a fresh PCC from the Hyderabad Passport Seva Kendra Begumpet. The Karnataka HRD step ran through the State Higher Education Department Multistoreyed Building Bengaluru for the JSS Mysuru and JSS Ooty degrees. The Punjab HRD step ran through the Punjab State Education Board for the NIPER Mohali documents. MEA apostille at the authorised MEA service-provider route. Around six weeks end to end. Novartis HR uploaded the apostilled and translated set to the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) Bern through the Basel cantonal Migration Office; her Permit B was approved in four weeks.

That sequence is the sequence behind most Indian senior pharma, finance and tech moves to Switzerland in 2026. Switzerland recruits Indian senior finance professionals, pharma scientists, regulatory leaders and IT integration specialists in steady numbers each year. Basel is the home of Roche, Novartis, Lonza, Galderma and Sandoz, and Indian pharma scientists make up a meaningful share of the senior R&D and regulatory teams. Zurich runs UBS, Julius Baer, Zurich Insurance, Swiss Re and the larger financial services sector. Indian risk, quantitative and structuring professionals fill mid and senior roles. Geneva is the private banking corridor (Pictet, Lombard Odier, Mirabaud, Edmond de Rothschild), plus the UN-linked institutions (UN Geneva, WHO, WTO, ILO, UNCTAD, UNICEF, UNHCR) and the watchmaking precision-engineering firms. Lausanne and the EPFL Innovation Park add a tech and biotech cluster. Switzerland's cantonal system means the destination canton shapes the language and some of the documentation: Zurich and Basel are German-speaking, Geneva and Lausanne French-speaking, Ticino (Lugano, Bellinzona) Italian-speaking.

The Swiss work permit landscape in 2026

Switzerland is not an EU country. It has bilateral agreements with the EU that give EU citizens easier access to the Swiss labour market. For Indian nationals (and other non-EU/EFTA nationals), the work permit route is tighter and subject to annual quotas.

The B permit is the standard annual residence permit, renewable, tied to the employer. After ten years of B permit residence, the C permit (permanent residence) is on offer.

The L permit is a short-term residence permit for up to twelve months, sometimes extended.

The G permit is for cross-border workers, which does not usually apply to Indian candidates moving to Switzerland for the first time.

For senior Indian professionals, the route runs through the employer. The Swiss employer applies to the cantonal labour market authority showing that the role could not be filled by a Swiss, EU or EFTA candidate, and that the salary and conditions meet Swiss norms. Once the cantonal authority approves, the case goes to the Federal State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) and the relevant Swiss embassy for visa issuance.

Family reunification under a B permit lets the holder bring the spouse and dependent children. The spouse gets a B permit dependant and can work in most cantons.

What the in India Switzerland authentication looks like in 2026

Switzerland has been a Hague apostille country for Indian documents since 1973. MEA apostille is the standard authentication.

The route has three steps on the India side.

State-level attestation or notarisation. Educational documents go through HRD or the State Education Department. Personal documents (marriage certificate, birth certificates) go through SDM or Home Department. Three to seven working days.

MEA apostille in Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs adds the apostille stamp. Three to five working days.

Certified translation. This is where Switzerland differs from English-medium destinations. Most cantonal authorities want the documents in the language of the destination canton. German for Zurich and Basel. French for Geneva and Lausanne. Italian for Ticino. The translation is done by a sworn translator (in German-speaking Switzerland, beeidigter Übersetzer; in French-speaking Switzerland, traducteur juré). Three to seven working days.

For the Police Clearance Certificate, the RPO issues it. The PCC then goes through MEA apostille. Translation is added in the same way.

Tracked return courier takes three to seven working days inside India.

If everything is in order, the steps run in three to five weeks. The translation step adds time compared to Ireland or Australia.

What documents the Swiss file carries

The engineering degree, the finance qualification (MBA, CFA, FRM, CA), the B.Pharm, M.Pharm or PhD with all marksheets. The university transcript with subjects and credit hours.

Experience letters from each Indian employer, with role, period, reporting manager and a description of the technical or financial work.

Professional certifications where applicable: CFA, FRM, CA, ICAI for chartered accountants, ICSI for company secretaries, ACS or product-specific certifications for IT.

The marriage certificate, if the spouse is joining. The full long-form birth certificate of each child being added as a dependant.

The Police Clearance Certificate from the RPO. Passport with at least twenty-four months of validity. The sponsor's Swiss B permit or other residence document, gathered on the Swiss side.

Where Switzerland files often get stuck

Quota timing. The Swiss non-EU/EFTA work permit quota is allocated cantonally and is small. A confirmed offer in May may need to wait until the next quota window. Plan around the canton's quota cycle.

Salary norm checks. Swiss cantonal authorities check that the offer meets Swiss salary norms for the role. A salary that looks generous in Indian terms may be below the Swiss norm for senior Basel pharma or Zurich finance roles.

Translation language match. A German translation for a Geneva role will be rejected. Confirm the destination canton first, then commission the right translation.

Sworn translator network. The cantonal authorities accept translations from sworn translators only. Generic Indian translation services are not on the sworn list and produce translations that get rejected at the cantonal counter.

Marriage and birth certificate format. The cantonal civil registration office (Zivilstandsamt or Office de l'état civil) reads these certificates carefully. Handwritten certificates from rural sub-registrars and pre-2000 short-form birth certificates need re-issue.

Our piece of a Switzerland pharma professional application, and the pieces that are not ours

When you first send us scans of the certificates on WhatsApp at +91 9220161774, we read them for Swiss cantonal fit. We confirm the destination canton, the language for the translation, what needs to be re-issued and what runs in parallel. We share the timeline and cost end to end before you pay anything.

When the originals reach our Noida office, we run the authentication in India. State-level attestation or notarisation, MEA apostille in Delhi, certified translation by a sworn translator in the right language (German, French or Italian) for the destination canton, PCC apostille after the RPO issues it, and tracked return courier to you or to your Swiss employer. Named SiZA staff carry the documents between offices in Delhi NCR.

We do not file the Swiss work permit. Your Swiss employer files that with the cantonal labour market authority. We do not run cantonal residence registration after arrival. The Einwohnerkontrolle (resident registration office) or the cantonal migration office does that. We do not arrange Swiss consular appointments. We do not handle anything inside Switzerland after you arrive.

For a free scan-review of your Switzerland finance or pharma file, send a WhatsApp message to +91 9220161774 with photos of your degree, your professional certifications, your experience letters and the offer letter from your Swiss employer, along with the destination canton.

Questions readers often ask

Why are Indians moving to Switzerland for finance, pharma and research opportunities?

Switzerland recruits Indian senior finance professionals, pharma scientists, regulatory leaders and IT integration specialists. Basel hosts Roche, Novartis, Lonza, Galderma and Sandoz, where Indian R&D and regulatory teams are well represented. Zurich runs UBS, Julius Baer, Zurich Insurance, Swiss Re and the wider financial services sector, with Indian risk, quant and structuring professionals in mid and senior roles. Geneva is the private banking corridor (Pictet, Lombard Odier, Mirabaud, Edmond de Rothschild), the UN-linked institutions (UN Geneva, WHO, WTO, ILO, UNCTAD), and the watchmaking precision-engineering firms. Lausanne and the EPFL Innovation Park add a tech and biotech cluster. The Swiss work permit system runs through the B permit (annual), the C permit (permanent after ten years on B), and the L permit (short-term up to twelve months), with employer sponsorship and cantonal quota approval.

Which documents may Indians need before moving to Switzerland?

A Switzerland finance, pharma or tech file usually carries the engineering degree, the finance qualification (MBA, CFA, FRM, CA), the B.Pharm, M.Pharm or PhD with all marksheets, the university transcript with subjects and credit hours, professional certifications (CFA, FRM, CA, ICAI, ICSI) where applicable, detailed experience letters from each Indian employer naming role, period and reporting manager, the marriage certificate if a spouse is joining, the long-form birth certificate of each dependent child, the Police Clearance Certificate from the RPO, and the passport with at least twenty-four months of validity. The big difference from English-medium destinations is that the documents need certified translation by a sworn translator into the language of the destination canton: German for Zurich and Basel, French for Geneva and Lausanne, Italian for Ticino.

Can SiZA Global help with apostille, attestation or translation?

Yes. Switzerland has been a Hague apostille country for Indian documents since 1973. SiZA handles the India side. We confirm the destination canton and the language for translation before any original moves. We run state-level attestation or notarisation in the issuing state, MEA apostille in Delhi, certified translation by a sworn translator in German, French or Italian depending on the destination canton, PCC apostille after the RPO issues the PCC, and tracked return of originals to you or to your Swiss employer. We do not file the Swiss work permit (your Swiss employer files that with the cantonal labour market authority). We do not run cantonal residence registration after arrival. We do not arrange Swiss consular appointments. We do not handle anything inside Switzerland after you arrive.

Is SiZA Global a government department or a private documentation support company?

SiZA Global Solutions Private Limited, the private documentation services firm at C-25, C Block, Sector 8, Noida, runs the paperwork in India on Indian pharma professionals' applications to Switzerland. We are a paid service and we are not part of any government office in India or Switzerland. We are not any Swiss immigration consultancy, the Pharmacy Council of India, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), the Embassy of Switzerland in Delhi, the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) or swissuniversities. What we do is the authentication in India: state Human Resource Development (HRD) attestation at the relevant state directorate, MEA work in Delhi, MEA apostille and certified German, French or Italian translation depending on the canton, and tracked physical movement of originals between issuing offices, MEA, translators and embassies in Delhi NCR. The Swiss work permit decision belongs to the cantonal labour market authority and the Federal State Secretariat for Migration. We do not pretend to influence that decision.
