A birth certificate going to the UAE is almost always part of a family-visa case or an Emirates ID file. The most common scenarios we handle from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates are: family-visa renewal where the sponsor (parent) has to add or renew a dependent child, school admission for a minor where the Indian birth certificate is the proof of date and parentage, Emirates ID issue or renewal where the name and date have to be re-verified, and the occasional civil-registration file where the dependent is being added to a benefit roll or insurance plan.
Start with an embassy-route scan
The UAE is not a Hague Apostille member, so the sequence on the birth certificate is not apostille, it is Home Department / SDM at the state level (depending on the issuing state), then MEA attestation, then UAE Embassy attestation in India through the official VFS / BLS channel, with UAE MOFA consolidated into the Embassy step. The municipal corporation or panchayat that issued the certificate has to be clearly visible. If the original certificate has been laminated, faded, or is on an old form that the issuing authority has since updated, a fresh certified-copy issue from the issuing authority is the cleanest first step before any attestation begins.
Two practical points come up almost every time on UAE-bound birth certificates. First, name comparison. UAE authorities compare the birth certificate names against the dependent's passport, the sponsor's passport, the sponsor's residence visa, the marriage certificate (where the sponsor is the parent), and any prior school records. Even small variants in spelling, date format, or father-name format can trigger queries that delay the visa work. A Tehsildar-issued One and Same Certificate is the accepted fix where applicable. Second, Arabic translation. UAE residence and family-visa medical centres commonly require certified Arabic translation alongside the attested birth certificate, prepared after the attestation steps so the seals and stamps are translated too.

Certified Arabic translation after the end-to-end work, tracked international courier to UAE
Embassy-route checks
Translation, MOFA, and step ordering
Embassy-sequence timeline factors
- Issuing-state SDM or Home Department working pace
- Certified-copy reissue at the issuing authority if needed
- MEA + UAE Embassy attestation queue
- Arabic translation page count
- India-to-UAE courier transit
Where embassy files get returned
- Sending the birth certificate for MEA apostille for UAE use, UAE is non-Hague
- Submitting a laminated birth certificate at MEA, returned at submission
- Routing through HRD (the educational-document path) instead of SDM or Home Department
- Name mismatch between birth certificate and dependent passport, Tehsildar One-and-Same Certificate before the sequence
- Translating before the attestation is complete, Arabic translation has to also represent the embassy stamps
Why SiZA on the embassy route
- Full UAE Embassy attestation steps on a civil document (SDM or Home Department + MEA + UAE Embassy), apostille is not the UAE sequence
- Family-visa renewal, school admission, Emirates ID, we handle the sequence to fit the specific UAE-side use case
- Condition triage on the original birth certificate before originals move (lamination, fading, defunct municipal authority)
- Name-consistency review against sponsor passport, dependent passport, and Emirates ID
- Arabic translation prepared after the full attestation steps, with transliteration standardised across the case

Frequently Asked Questions
What documents are required?
The exact list depends on the file. For a degree apostille, the original degree certificate is the core document, with transcripts / consolidated marksheets, passport copy, and the destination authority's checklist as supporting. For a birth certificate apostille, the original municipal-corporation-issued certificate plus identity proof. For a marriage certificate apostille, the original registered civil certificate (Sub-Registrar / Marriage Registrar issued, not just religious ceremony). SiZA Global reviews the specific file scans on WhatsApp and confirms the exact document set required before originals move.
How long does the process take?
End-to-end timelines depend on the issuing state, university verification, document type, destination country and translation requirement. MEA apostille itself takes 2 to 4 working days, or 24 hours on urgent processing if the next day is a working day. State HRD timings vary by state, for example Maharashtra takes 25 to 35 working days, Gujarat takes 10 to 30 working days, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh take 10 to 15 working days, and Kerala takes 20 to 30 working days. For non-Hague countries, embassy and MOFA steps are added separately.
Do originals need to be submitted?
Yes. HRD, SDM, Home Department, MEA apostille, and embassy attestation are all physical-stamping processes on the original document. A scan is enough for the initial review on WhatsApp; the original is then couriered to SiZA Global (or we arrange doorstep pickup in major Indian cities) for the authority steps. The original is returned by AWB-tracked courier after completion. NRIs whose originals are with family in India can coordinate the whole process remotely, the originals never leave India for the apostille step.
What is embassy attestation?
Embassy attestation is the India-side legalisation route for countries that are NOT members of the Hague Apostille Convention, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, and a smaller set of others. The Indian document goes through state-level authentication (SDM, HRD, Home Department, or Chamber of Commerce depending on document type), then MEA attestation, then attestation at the destination country's embassy or consulate in India. UAE MOFA attestation now also happens in India alongside the UAE Embassy step.
