A practical 2026 guide for the Indian software, quant, platform or data engineer moving to a London fintech: which UK visa fits, what these roles pay, and exactly which degrees and civil documents need MEA apostille in India. UK is a Hague country, so it stays a clean apostille at Patiala House Delhi after state HRD attestation, with no embassy step. SiZA runs the India-side apostille attestation and any certified translation from Noida.

In February 2026, a principal engineer at Razorpay Bengaluru signed a senior staff engineer offer at Monzo London on a Skilled Worker visa. He held a BTech CS from IIIT Hyderabad (2017), four years at Walmart Labs Bengaluru and three years on Razorpay's payments-infrastructure team. Monzo's certificate of sponsorship came in at GBP 92,000 base.

His Monzo HR file needed his IIIT Hyderabad BTech apostilled, his class-twelve Telangana State Board certificate apostilled, his Razorpay and Walmart Labs employment letters notarised on the HR letterheads with the engineering directors' countersigns, an English-language assessment (his IIIT Hyderabad medium-of-instruction certificate covered it), and a PCC from the Hyderabad Passport Seva Kendra Begumpet. The educational documents went through Telangana HRD attestation at the State Higher Education Department Tarnaka, then MEA apostille at Patiala House Delhi. That two-step degree attestation, state directorate followed by the apostille in Delhi, is the standard educational certificate attestation path for any Indian university certificate going abroad.

The UK has been a Hague apostille destination for Indian documents since 1965, so the work stayed clean: state HRD, then a single apostille in India, no embassy attestation step. Three weeks from documents leaving Noida to his UK Skilled Worker visa stamped at the British High Commission Delhi. On a typical timeline, that means Heathrow in week six and a first day at Monzo's Finsbury Square office in week seven.

That sequence sits behind hundreds of Indian fintech senior-engineer moves to London every year. London after Brexit is a fintech market that needed engineering depth and could no longer lean on the EU free-movement pipeline. Senior Indian engineers, brought in on the Skilled Worker visa and the Global Talent visa, have filled the gap. The post-Brexit Skilled Worker visa is friendlier to Indian candidates than the old Tier 2 system, because Brexit removed the EU-resident-priority rule that quietly capped non-EU hiring at UK fintech firms. An Indian engineer applying in 2026 walks into a more open market than the same applicant did in 2018.

This guide is for the Indian software engineer, quant developer, platform engineer, infrastructure engineer, security engineer, data engineer or product engineer applying to a UK fintech role in 2026. It covers the visa choice, what these roles pay, which documents you need to apostille, the timeline that ties them together, and what SiZA handles for you from Noida.

Which UK visa should an Indian fintech engineer choose?

The first decision on a UK fintech engineering file is the visa category, because each one shapes the paperwork differently.

  • Skilled Worker visa (formerly Tier 2). The standard path for sponsored hires. The UK employer must hold a sponsor licence and issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). This covers roughly 90 percent of Indian fintech engineering hires. It ties you to the sponsoring employer (changing jobs needs a new CoS), but the path to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after five years, and citizenship after that, is well-trodden.
  • Global Talent visa. The unsponsored option for senior research leaders, recognised technical experts and exceptional-promise candidates. Endorsement comes from a recognised body. Tech Nation handled digital-technology endorsements until it was discontinued in 2023; that work now runs through the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Computer Society and similar bodies. Global Talent removes the sponsor lock-in and offers faster ILR (three years for exceptional-talent endorsements).
  • Innovator Founder visa. For senior engineers who want to start a UK fintech rather than join one. It needs endorsement by an approved body and a GBP 50,000 minimum investment, which can come from your own funds, an angel investor or a UK VC. Indian founders launching neobanks, payment infrastructure and B2B SaaS in the UK use this one.

What do UK fintech roles pay, and what is the salary threshold?

The Skilled Worker salary threshold was raised in April 2024, from GBP 26,200 to GBP 38,700 minimum for most occupations. For roles on the Immigration Salary List (formerly the Shortage Occupation List), the threshold sits at GBP 30,960. The Health and Care visa has its own lower threshold, but it does not apply to fintech engineering.

For a senior Indian engineer joining a London fintech, salaries usually sit well above that floor.

Role band 2026 typical base Where
Senior backend engineer, unicorn neobank GBP 90,000 to GBP 130,000 plus equity Revolut, Monzo, Starling, Wise
Staff / principal engineer GBP 150,000 to GBP 200,000 Best-paying London fintechs
Senior quant developer / engineer GBP 200,000 to GBP 400,000 plus bonus City of London quant and HFT firms

Neobank packages add standard UK pension contributions and private medical insurance on top of base. The quant and HFT figures cover firms like Citadel UK, Jane Street UK, Two Sigma UK, DRW UK and Optiver UK.

Which documents need apostille for the Skilled Worker family file?

For an Indian engineer sponsored by a UK fintech on a Skilled Worker visa, the practical bundle covers the principal applicant and any dependants.

  • The engineering or finance degree (BTech, BE, MTech, MS, MBA in Finance, MCA) with consolidated marksheet and university transcript.
  • Professional certifications, where relevant: CFA charter certificate, FRM certificate, CISSP, CISA, GARP membership records. CFA Institute, GARP and ISACA issue these in English from international bodies, so no translation is needed.
  • Marriage certificate for the spouse dependant visa.
  • Birth certificate of each child for the dependant child visa.
  • PSK Police Clearance Certificate, for the visa application and again later at ILR.
  • Long-form birth certificate of the principal applicant, for OCI re-issue after future UK citizenship.

The UK Home Office does not strictly require apostille for the Skilled Worker visa interview itself; the visa officer reads degree certificates without it. The apostille becomes operationally important at the ILR stage (five years after entry), at any professional licensing application, and at the Naturalisation as a British Citizen application later. Build it once, use it for years.

Because UK is a Hague country, this is a clean MEA apostille job: HRD attestation on the educational documents, then the apostille in Delhi, with no embassy attestation involved. That is the difference from a Gulf posting, where a non-Hague country still needs MOFA attestation and an embassy step; the UK never does, so do not let anyone sell you an embassy stage you do not need. Certified translation is rarely needed, since Indian engineering and finance degrees are already in English. Where a personal document does need translating, our certified translation team handles it.

How educational certificate attestation works before the apostille

Educational documents in India go through the issuing state's directorate before MEA apostille. This degree attestation step is the HRD attestation stage, and the office depends on where your university sits:

  • Telangana SHED Tarnaka for IIIT Hyderabad and BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus
  • Maharashtra Mantralaya Mumbai for IIT Bombay, COEP and VJTI
  • Karnataka SHED Multistoreyed Building Bengaluru for IIIT Bangalore and PESU
  • Tamil Nadu DTE Guindy for IIT Madras and NIT Trichy
  • AP SHED Mangalagiri
  • Delhi DoE Old Secretariat for IIT Delhi and DTU

How long does the work in India take, from CoS to visa stamp?

Step Where it happens How long
State HRD attestation on the engineering degree The relevant state directorate (see the list above) roughly 7 to 45 working days, depending on the state and university
MEA apostille on the bundled set Patiala House Delhi counter 3 to 5 working days
PSK Police Clearance Certificate Home Passport Seva Kendra, with police verification at the residential address 7 to 21 working days
TB test certificate (mandatory for all India-resident applicants on a UK long-term visa) IOM-approved clinic in India 1 to 3 days; certificate valid for six months
Long-form birth certificate re-issue, where needed The issuing Municipal Corporation 7 to 21 working days

Run these in parallel and the whole thing takes four to six weeks. Start when the CoS is issued, and finish before you lodge the Skilled Worker visa application at the VFS Global centre in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru.

Which UK fintech firms hire Indian engineers in 2026?

The UK fintech employer landscape concentrates across six clusters.

Unicorn neobanks

Revolut (its largest engineering centre outside London is now in Vilnius), Monzo (Finsbury Square London), Starling Bank (Cardiff and London), Wise (formerly TransferWise, Shoreditch London), Tide, Cleo, Plum and Curve. Revolut alone hired more than 1,500 engineers across 2024 and 2025, a meaningful share of the senior backend, platform and ML roles going to Indian candidates.

Lending and BNPL firms

Zilch, OakNorth, Funding Circle, Atom Bank, Klarna UK, ClearPay, Lendable, Capital On Tap and iwoca.

Investment and trading platforms

Wealthify, Wombat, Trading 212, IG Group, eToro UK, Freetrade and InvestEngine. Hargreaves Lansdown and AJ Bell run larger engineering teams in Bristol and Manchester.

Payments and infrastructure firms

Checkout.com, GoCardless, Modulr, Currencycloud (now part of Visa), Banking Circle, ClearBank, Truelayer and Yapily.

City of London firms with strong engineering

Goldman Sachs UK (the Marquee platform), JPMorgan UK, Morgan Stanley UK, Citi, Bank of America UK, Standard Chartered, HSBC UK, Lloyds Banking Group, Barclays and NatWest. On the quant and HFT side: Citadel UK, Jane Street UK, Two Sigma UK, DRW UK and Optiver UK.

Cambridge, Edinburgh and Manchester clusters

Cambridge Wireless, Arm and the AI scale-up cluster around Cambridge. Edinburgh fintech (FNZ, Skyscanner, Money Dashboard, Aveni AI). The Manchester tech corridor.

What does SiZA handle on a UK fintech engineering file?

A UK fintech engineering file reaches us after the CoS has been issued, or earlier if you want to prepare before it arrives. You send the engineering degree, marksheets, transcript, professional certifications, marriage certificate, children's birth certificates and passport on WhatsApp to +91 9220161774. We confirm the state HRD step, advise on long-form birth certificate re-issue where needed, and run the work.

When the originals reach our Noida office at C-25, C Block, Sector 8, the work runs:

  1. State HRD attestation, where the document needs it.
  2. MEA apostille on the bundled academic and civil documents at Patiala House Delhi, the same apostille in India that the UK documentation guide calls for.
  3. PSK PCC coordination, where your current PCC has expired.
  4. Tracked return courier.

The UK has been a Hague apostille destination for Indian documents since 1965, so this stays a clean apostille attestation at Patiala House, no embassy attestation. The apostilled set lands back in your hands ready for the Skilled Worker visa application at the VFS Global centre in Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru.

What we do not handle: the Skilled Worker visa application itself (you file through gov.uk and UKVI), the TB test (you sit at an IOM clinic), the CoS issuance (your UK employer handles it under their sponsor licence), the FCA approvals where the role is regulated (the employer's job), and the Indefinite Leave to Remain application after the qualifying period.
