Planning a European degree from India means more than an admission letter. Most countries want your marksheets and degree carrying an MEA apostille, a certified translation by a sworn translator in the local language, and a country-specific evaluation like APS, CIMEA or Campus France. This guide maps the document work country by country for 2026, with real costs, offices and timelines, and shows where SiZA handles the apostille and certified translation for you from Noida.

In this guide(4 sections)
  1. 1.Which country-specific evaluation does each European destination ask for?
  2. 2.What is the apostille and certified translation process in India for Europe?
  3. 3.Which documents need apostille and translation for a Europe student visa?
  4. 4.What does SiZA handle on a Europe student file, and what stays with you?

A class-twelve student from Coimbatore opened the admissions email from TU Munich in late January 2026. Bachelor's in Informatics, English-taught track, fees EUR 0 (TU Munich charges only the semester fee of around EUR 144 per term), four years to a German Bachelor's degree, then a six- to eighteen-month post-study residence permit to find work in Germany. His family, both his parents engineering graduates from PSG Tech and CIT Coimbatore, had been saving for the standard US route. The TU Munich offer was unexpected. The financial maths reversed: total four-year cost in Germany came in at under INR 25 lakhs including living, against INR 1.6 to 2.2 crore for a comparable US private university. The documentation route was different too. APS verification at the German Embassy in Delhi (mandatory for Indian Bachelor's applicants from January 2024), MEA apostille on the class-twelve certificate and HSC marksheet, certified German translation by a court-sworn vereidigter Uebersetzer, and a Schengen national visa application at the German consulate in Chennai.

That sequence is the sequence behind every one of the roughly 230,000 Indian students now studying across Europe in 2024-25. Germany alone hosts around 50,000 Indian students. The UK is at around 130,000. France, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Hungary and the smaller EU destinations make up the rest. The European structure (three-year Bachelor's, one or two-year Master's, three to four-year PhD, often with a generous post-study residence pathway) makes Europe a credible alternative to the US for Indian families weighing costs against post-degree options. This page maps the country-by-country picture in 2026 for the Indian student or family planning a European application.

Which country-specific evaluation does each European destination ask for?

Most European destinations want a country-specific evaluation of your Indian academic record before they admit you. This is separate from the apostille work, and it usually runs in parallel with your degree attestation and certified translation in India. The table below shows what each country asks for.

Destination Evaluation step Who runs it / how long
Germany APS verification, mandatory since 2022 German Embassy in Delhi, four to twelve weeks
Italy CIMEA Statement of Comparability, or DoV (Dichiarazione di Valore) for non-CIMEA cases CIMEA Rome office (Italian government); DoV issued by the Italian Consulate
France Campus France (Etudes en France) pre-consular portal Required for most Indian master's and bachelor's applications
Netherlands Nuffic credential evaluation for some courses Most Dutch universities accept the apostilled degree directly
Spain NIE application after arrival; degree recognition via the Ministry of Universities Done in Spain after you land
Poland Usually no formal evaluation for English-medium master's The Polish university reviews credentials directly
Czech Republic Usually no formal evaluation at the university The residence permit process handles legal recognition
Hungary Stipendium Hungaricum via Tempus Public Foundation; private applicants via the university Depends on whether you are on the scholarship
UK UK ENIC (formerly NARIC) academic statement Added where the university asks for it
Ireland Usually none Most universities accept the apostilled degree directly

You can confirm any country's Hague membership on the HCCH status table before you start, since that decides whether you need an apostille or, for the few non-Hague cases, embassy attestation.

What is the apostille and certified translation process in India for Europe?

The document work in India is mostly the same across European destinations, with only the translation language changing. Because nearly all of Europe is Hague, this is apostille attestation, not embassy attestation. Here is the order:

  1. State HRD attestation on educational documents, done at the State HRD directorate or State Education Department of the issuing state. This is the educational certificate attestation Europe expects. Roughly 7 to 45 working days depending on the state and the university.
  2. MEA apostille in Delhi at the Patiala House counter. This is the MEA apostille that makes your degree valid across Hague Europe. Three to five working days.
  3. Certified translation by a sworn translator in the destination language: German for Germany, Italian for Italy, French for France, Spanish for Spain, Czech for Czech Republic, Polish for Poland, Hungarian for Hungary, Lithuanian for Lithuania, Slovak for Slovakia, Slovenian for Slovenia. For Ireland, the UK, Malta and the other English-medium destinations, no translation is needed.
  4. Country-specific evaluation in parallel: APS for Germany, CIMEA or DoV for Italy, Campus France for France. Start this early because it is the longest single step.
  5. PCC from the RPO where the destination asks for it. Some require it for longer-stay master's, PhD admissions and visa renewals.
  6. Tracked return courier to you or directly to your university.

The whole process runs in three to six weeks for English-medium destinations, and longer for non-English-medium destinations because of the certified translation and the country-specific evaluation step.

Which documents need apostille and translation for a Europe student visa?

A European student file usually carries the following documents. The academic ones need degree attestation, MEA apostille and certified translation; the rest travel as supporting papers.

  • Current academic record with all marksheets: Class 12 marksheet for undergraduate applications, bachelor's degree for master's applications, master's degree for PhD applications.
  • University transcript with subjects, credit hours and the grading scale.
  • English Medium of Instruction certificate, where your prior degree was English-medium and the university accepts it in place of IELTS.
  • Language test result: IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, DELF, TestDaF, CILS or another, depending on the destination.
  • Country-specific evaluation certificate: APS for Germany, CIMEA Statement of Comparability for Italy, Campus France approval for France.
  • Financial documents: bank statements, education loan sanction or scholarship award letter, showing funds for the destination's financial threshold.
  • Admission letter or country-specific scholarship award letter: Stipendium Hungaricum, Erasmus+ Joint Master Degree, Eiffel Excellence, DAAD.
  • Police Clearance Certificate from the RPO where required.
  • Passport with at least eighteen months of validity.
