A automotive design engineer from Tata Technologies Pune, BTech Mechanical Engineering from Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) 2019, four years at Tata Technologies' Hinjewadi office on Jaguar Land Rover body-in-white design programmes, with a Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia offer for a Body-in-White Design Engineer role at the JLR Nitra manufacturing plant in hand. EUR 38,000 base on a Slovak Single Permit (kombinovany povolenie). The JLR Slovakia HR file in Nitra needed apostille on his PICT BTech Mechanical Engineering degree, MEA apostille on his class-twelve Maharashtra State Board certificate, MEA apostille on his marriage certificate from the Pune Sub-Registrar, certified Slovak translation by a Slovak Embassy-listed translator, and a fresh PCC from the Pune Passport Seva Kendra Vimannagar. Slovakia has been a Hague apostille destination for Indian documents since 2002, so a single MEA apostille is enough and there is no embassy attestation step. The Maharashtra HRD step ran through the State Higher Education Department at Mantralaya Mumbai. MEA apostille followed at Patiala House Delhi. The whole job ran about six weeks end to end. The Slovak Bureau of Border and Foreign Police in Nitra issued the Single Permit in four weeks. Typical arrival is at Bratislava for the May 2026 JLR Nitra start on schedule.
That sequence is the sequence behind most Indian engineer and skilled-worker moves to Slovakia in 2026. Slovakia is an underrated destination for Indian students and skilled workers. Bratislava, Kosice, Zilina, Trnava and the wider Slovak industrial base host one of Europe's largest automotive manufacturing concentrations relative to population. Volkswagen Slovakia at Bratislava, Kia Motors at Zilina, Stellantis (Peugeot Citroen) at Trnava, Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia at Nitra, and a long supplier base (Faurecia, ZF Slovakia, Magna, Brose, Adient, Continental Slovakia) hire Indian automotive and mechanical engineers. The IT and shared services cluster has IBM Slovakia, T-Systems, Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions, Accenture, Cisco, Whirlpool back office, AT&T Slovakia. Indian students fit into Comenius University Bratislava, the Slovak University of Technology, the University of Economics Bratislava, the Slovak Medical University and the smaller universities in Kosice, Trnava and Zvolen.
Which documents need apostille and Slovak translation for Slovakia?
Slovakia has been a Hague apostille country for Indian documents since 2002, so MEA apostille is the standard authentication. There is no Slovak embassy attestation step, which keeps the work in India shorter than a non-Hague Gulf file.
Here is the order the steps actually run in:
- State HRD attestation or SDM attestation. Educational certificate attestation goes through the State HRD attestation department; personal documents like a birth or marriage certificate go through the SDM or Home Department. Roughly three to seven working days, though some state HRD departments take longer.
- MEA apostille in Delhi. The Ministry of External Affairs stamps the apostille. Three to five working days.
- Certified Slovak translation. A sworn translator (uradny prekladatel) listed with the Slovak Embassy prepares the certified translation needed for the residence permit application and most formal steps. Three to seven working days. See our certified translation page.
- PCC apostille. The Regional Passport Office (RPO) issues the Police Clearance Certificate, then it gets MEA apostille.
- Tracked return courier. Three to seven working days inside India.
If the documents are clean from the start, the full apostille in India and Slovak translation work runs in three to five weeks.

What are the Slovak work permit and student visa routes?
Student route
The National Visa Type D for studies is issued at the Slovak Embassy in New Delhi once the candidate has an acceptance letter from a Slovak university and proof of funds. Most Indian student courses at Comenius University and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava run in English.
Worker route
The Single Work and Residence Permit (the Slovak equivalent of the EU Blue Card style combined permit) is the main route, decided by the Bureau of Border and Foreign Police. The salary threshold for the EU Blue Card in Slovakia is around 1.5 times the average gross monthly wage (around EUR 2,100 in 2026). Lower-threshold work permits exist for shortage occupations defined by the Slovak labour ministry. Family reunification is available after six months on a long-term residence permit.
What does a Slovakia worker file from India actually carry?
A Slovakia student or worker file usually carries:
- The engineering degree or current academic record (for students), with all marksheets and the university transcript.
- Detailed experience letters from each Indian employer on work files, naming role, period, reporting manager and technical work.
- The marriage certificate, if the spouse is joining, and the full long-form birth certificate of any dependent child.
- Certified Slovak translation by a sworn translator on all academic, professional and civil documents.
- The Police Clearance Certificate from the RPO.
- The passport with at least twenty-four months of validity.
- The Slovak employer offer or the university acceptance letter.
Every educational certificate here needs degree attestation (State HRD attestation, then MEA apostille) before the certified Slovak translation is prepared on the apostilled document.
